About The Position

Social Services is now accepting applications to be considered for an open position as a Full-Time Social Worker in the Child Protection Unit. This position is open to current Clay County Social Worker’s only. The primary function of this role is to provide child welfare and protective services to children and their families at risk of abuse and neglect. The goal is to reduce the likelihood of abuse and neglect, prevent out-of-home placement when possible, and improve family functioning. Services provided will be comprehensive, coordinated, and tailored to the individual needs of the child and family, aiming for the least restrictive, most community-based setting. When family preservation is not feasible, the role involves permanency planning and development, including custody transfer and adoption activities, all within federal and state mandates.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university with a major in Social Work, Psychology, Sociology or closely related field.
  • 1-3 years prior work-related experience.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Must be a current Clay County employee who meets the eligibility criteria for internal postings under the Clay County/Teamsters Local 120 labor agreement.
  • Successfully complete a background investigation.

Responsibilities

  • Provide child welfare and protective services to children and their families at risk of abuse and neglect.

  • Deliver comprehensive and coordinated services reflecting the individual and unique needs of the child and the family.
  • Deliver services in the least restrictive, most community-based setting whenever possible to facilitate and maintain the family system.
  • Provide permanency planning and development, including transferring custody and/or adoption activities, when family preservation is not possible and efforts have been exhausted.
  • Be on call after hours 1-3 times per year.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
