Within the context of a patient, client and family centred model of care, and in accordance with the mission, vision, values, and strategic directions of Providence Health Care, promotes a safe, respectful, and civil working environment for patients, residents, families, visitors and staff. Reporting to the designated Social Work Site Leader, working under the overall direction of the Professional Practice Leader and Patient Resident Care Manager, and receiving guidance from the Research, Education and Practice Coordinator, the Social Worker, Brief Intervention Clinic provides advanced therapeutic clinical services to patients through complex assessments, individual and group therapy and education for adults who are being assessed, or receiving treatment for mental health. The Brief Intervention Clinic is a comprehensive service offering inpatient treatment services to adults throughout the Province of British Columbia. Working within a systems and structural theory-based model, the Social Worker coordinates care and treatment for a designated caseload. Liaises with professionals and teams throughout the province to assist with clinical treatment challenges and to provide education. Provides leadership within the team and the program and utilizes skills in dialectical and cognitive behaviour therapies to teach internal/external trainees from various disciplines such as psychiatric residents and fellows and other interdisciplinary students including nursing and social work students. Participates in program development and research activities, and makes presentations locally, provincially, nationally and internationally at conferences. Consults with and provides consultation to the BIC team, inpatient care teams and relevant community agencies on Mental Health practices as well as legislative issues including FIPPA, Health Care Consent Act, Mental Health Act and Adult Guardianship Act.The Social Worker has a central role in liaising, and sharing information, with community agencies and resources such as government agencies, hospitals, and community mental health services and charitable organizations around the province. The Social Worker functions in an interprofessional environment and is responsible for fostering a positive treatment milieu, policies and routines that are attuned to cultural, religious and ethnic diversity.
