Youth and Family Services Division (YFS) of the Department of Social Services (DSS) provides a variation of services to safeguard children by strengthening the protective capacities of families whose children’s health, safety and well-being are at risk. This position provides direct supervision, training, support, and review and evaluation of professional technical and para-professional staff involved in areas which could include Social Services. This position compiles reports and data to ensure compliance with established policies and procedures as well as assignment and monitoring of cases. This position provides feedback to staff to enhance their capabilities to perform efficiently.

Requirements

  • Minimum of five years of social services or human services experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Human Services, Health or related field
  • Combination of relevant education and relevant experience accepted
  • Requires a valid North Carolina or South Carolina Driver's License
  • Requires County Driving Privileges
  • Knowledge of General social work principles and available resources
  • Knowledge of Social services procedures, practices and methods
  • Knowledge of Social services related federal, state and local laws, rules and regulations relating to provision of public assistance, and social welfare
  • Knowledge of Case management methods and techniques
  • Knowledge of Services offered by the county and other local public and private community based service agencies
  • Interpreting and implementing local, state and federal regulations that govern Health and Human Services
  • Explaining and advocating for the needs of children, families, the elderly, disable adults and the impoverished
  • Demonstrated leadership skills
  • Excellent communication skills – both written and spoken

Nice To Haves

  • Master's degree in Social Work preferred
  • A minimum of (2) years of supervisory experience preferred
  • (3) years of Child Welfare experience preferred

Responsibilities

  • Supervise, train and evaluate the performance of technical and para-professional staff
  • Consult with teams and staff on individual case assignments
  • Develop procedures to meet department or program goals, ensuring adherence to regulatory guidelines.
  • Reviews information with teams or staff members to provide guidance and direction in the delivery of services
  • Establish performance objectives, conducts periodic reviews and monitors progress
  • Monitor budget activities and adjusts expenditures and makes recommendations as appropriate
  • Review and audits staff cases and workloads to prioritize duties and referrals for new cases
  • Complete monthly and quarterly program reports
  • Provide consultation to staff in complex case situations, acute emergencies, or cases which require a high level decision
  • Communicate with and visit other public and private welfare agencies, hospitals and other institutions in order to exchange information and develop resources
  • Seek additional sources to increase funding and expand services
  • Review and analyze activity reports and statistics for continuous awareness of program operation
  • May be required to staff shelters in the event of a disaster
