About The Position

This is an unpaid internship opportunity for first and second-year BSW/MSW students. The intern will work with HELP USA programs that provide shelter and/or services to people experiencing or at risk of homelessness. The role offers hands-on experience with clients, learning from a SIFI-certified supervisor, participation in training and activities with other interns, and networking opportunities. Interns will also have priority for job openings after graduation. The internship requires coordination with the student's school for credit and adherence to school requirements for hours and supervision.

Requirements

  • First-year BSW/MSW student
  • Second-year BSW/MSW student
  • Must coordinate with school to receive credit for participation
  • Must be scheduled for the number of hours and supervision as required by the school's program

Responsibilities

  • Conducting intake interviews and assessments for new clients.
  • Collaborating with the service team to formulate a service plan and provide clinical services.
  • Conducting biopsychosocial assessments when appropriate.
  • Meeting with clients regularly.
  • Co-facilitating workshops and groups according to the population's needs.
  • Advocating for clients and assisting in navigation of the service delivery system.
  • Serving as a liaison with various agencies, schools, health care providers, mental health providers, and employment training providers.
  • Participating in team meetings, individual supervisory meetings, and case conferences.
  • Documenting all work with and on behalf of clients.
