About The Position

Wayne Metropolitan Community Action Agency (Wayne Metro) is seeking a Social Work Intern to provide a generalist social work overview with a focus in nonprofit work. This internship offers the opportunity to work closely with families in underserved communities, providing high-quality services in basic needs areas. The intern will gain professional skills in case management, advocacy, and community engagement while learning to work effectively within a team. Wayne Metro's mission is to eliminate poverty by empowering people and communities to be strong, healthy, and thriving. The agency's vision is of thriving communities where all people have hope and opportunities to realize their full potential. Staff are dedicated to serving others with professionalism, empathy, respect, excellent client service, confidentiality, punctuality, and regular attendance. The agency offers over 70 programs, including valuable educational, housing, and emergency services.

Requirements

  • Actively obtaining a Bachelor's degree in Social Work
  • Pass Criminal Background check & Drug Screening
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in written form
  • Above average attention to detail
  • Good interpersonal and professional skills including but not limited to professional appearance, tact, punctuality, and dependability
  • Perform work in a manner that upholds Wayne Metro policies, procedures, and mission

  • Ability to develop and maintain effective processes by employing critical thinking to relate tasks as a way to maximize efficiency through to completion

Responsibilities

  • Assisting clients with applying for basic needs programs internally and externally
  • Working with families/individuals in an underserved community
  • Assisting walk-in clients with their needs
  • Conducting outbound phone calls to clients needing assistance to ensure they get connected to services
  • Apply Trauma-informed care meeting clients where they are
  • Apply classroom learning to real-world social work practices
