About The Position

Wayne Metropolitan Community Action Agency's mission is to eliminate poverty by empowering people and communities to be strong, healthy, and thriving, envisioning communities where all people have hope and opportunities to realize their full potential. The agency's staff is dedicated to serving others with professionalism, empathy, respect, excellent client service, maintaining confidentiality, punctuality, and regular attendance. They provide assistance to low to moderate income families to address their most critical needs through over 70 programs, including valuable educational, housing, and emergency services. This internship offers a generalist social work overview with a focus on nonprofit work, involving close collaboration with families in underserved communities to provide high-quality services in basic needs areas. The student will gain professional skills in case management, advocacy, and community engagement work while learning how to work effectively with a team.

Requirements

  • Actively obtaining a Bachelor's degree in Social Work
  • Pass Criminal Background check & Drug Screening
  • High school diploma/general education degree (GED) OR a combination of education and experience that is similarly equivalent.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in written form.
  • Above average attention to detail
  • Good interpersonal and professional skills including but not limited to professional appearance, tact, punctuality, and dependability.
  • Perform work in a manner that upholds Wayne Metro policies, procedures, and mission.

Responsibilities

  • Assisting clients with applying for basic needs programs internally and externally
  • Working with families/individuals in an underserved community
  • Assisting walk in clients with their needs
  • Conducting outbound phone calls to clients needing assistance to ensure they get connected to services.
  • Apply Trauma-informed care meeting clients where they are.
  • Apply classroom learning to real-world social work practices
