INTERN - SOCIAL WORK (MSW)
About The Position
Kingwood Pines Hospital is a 116-bed facility serving children, adolescents, and adults with psychiatric and behavioral health needs. The hospital offers 24-hour emergency services, intensive outpatient, and partial hospital program services. This is an unpaid internship where interns will work with Therapists who conduct therapeutic services, including individual, family, and group counseling. Therapists are responsible for developing psychosocial histories, assessing patient needs, creating treatment objectives, and writing monthly treatment summaries. They serve as the primary contact and advocate for patients and families, and liaise with outside agencies for discharge planning.
Requirements
- Enrolled in a Master’s Degree program from an accredited college or university in social work, counseling, or other related fields.
- Good verbal and written communication skills for documentation of assessments, treatment planning, and interventions.
- Ability to communicate clearly and concisely with the multidisciplinary treatment team, managed care representatives, adults, and patient families.
- Knowledge of individual, group, and family therapy dynamics and techniques related to cultural, social, economic, communication, and role expectations within family systems.
- Knowledge of clinical skills to accurately assess treatment dynamics and develop effective treatment strategies.
- Good visual acuity.
- Ability to lift up to 40lbs.
- Ability to push/pull a minimum of 40 pounds.
- Ability to tolerate frequent position changes such as twisting, stooping, reaching, squatting, kneeling, pushing/pulling, and bending positions for a complete shift.
- Ability to sit, stand, and walk for momentary to extended periods of time.
- Ability to work productively.
- Ability to ensure attention to detail in reviewing and producing documents.
Responsibilities
- Conduct therapeutic services for patients.

- Interview patients and families to develop psychosocial histories.
- Assess the therapeutic needs of individuals and families.
