About The Position

The Social Work Fellow, under direct supervision of a Licensed Clinical Social Work Supervisor, is responsible for supervised therapy sessions with patients in the Psychiatry Outpatient Clinic. The Social Work Fellow serves as a liaison between patients, physicians, and community resources, as well as assisting in the implementation of the Child Psychiatry Access Network (CPAN) and the Texas Children's Mental Health Access Through Telemedicine (TCHATT). This is a two-year program, with initial appointments for one year and a second-year re-appointment at the discretion of the Department. Future continued employment after the two-year program is not guaranteed. This position is grant funded; future employment may be contingent upon future funding. Depending on the nature of the position, immunizations may be required (excluding COVID and Flu).

Requirements

  • Master's Degree in Social Work or related field from a program accredited by the Council on Social Work Education, or equivalent level of education and experience that qualifies the applicant to hold a Licensed Master Social Work (LMSW) License in Texas.
  • Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW) License in Texas.
  • Able to engage with processes of clinical supervision with supervisor.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Comfortable with learning new technology and delivering services via telehealth.
  • Ability to perform all tasks and responsibilities safely without injury to self and others in compliance with A&M System and HSC guidelines.

Nice To Haves

  • Master's level course work in individual, family, and group therapy.
  • Master's level course work in various therapy models and motivational interviewing.
  • Bilingual (Spanish Preferred).
  • One year of practice experience in a behavioral health or related setting. (This experience may be accrued during a graduate program.)
  • Clinical experience with children, adolescents, couples, substance use, or trauma.
  • Experience in telehealth.
  • Experience in working with interdisciplinary care teams.
  • Experience in evidence-based treatment methods.

Responsibilities

  • Provides detailed Behavioral Health evaluations incorporating a psychosocial history including risk assessment and recommendation for treatment, under supervision of an LCSW-S and within limitations of license.
  • Delivers evidence-based psychotherapy to patients using assessment tools to track patient progress and tailored intervention, under supervision of an LCSW-S and within limitations of license.
  • Provides specialty consultation to other health care staff.
  • Assumes responsibility for difficult and complex patients based on experience or area of expertise.
  • Participates as a member of an inter- and intra-disciplinary team, including problem solving, program planning, clinical care planning, and quality improvement.
  • Assists with developing and modifying patient triage and intake and referral systems within the clinic.
  • Assists in implementing and training evidence base treatment.
  • Documents services and activities per department standards and assists with program evaluation activities to track and analyze utilization and effectiveness of services.
  • Participates in continuing education through interdisciplinary didactic and rounding activities.
  • Conducts scholarly presentations to clinic staff and participate in educational activities for staff, students and trainees of other disciplines.
  • Participates in group and individual supervision with clinical supervisor, discussing current patient care, reviewing clinical skill exercises, and ensuring continued professional development.
  • Contributes to department research mission as needed.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
