About The Position

The Social Work-Assistant Professor position involves teaching responsibilities for both BSW and MSW programs, including core curriculum, electives, and field practicum courses. The role includes serving as Lead Instructor for select courses, developing course materials, and managing adjunct faculty. Additionally, the position requires student advising for degree plans and career development, supervision of student research, and active participation in department and program meetings. Collaboration with faculty and staff, involvement in the admissions process, and adherence to professional standards and ethics are key aspects of this role. The position also entails conducting research or scholarship activities suitable for a teaching university, contributing professionally, and participating in committees and special projects. Administrative and supervisory functions for assigned staff, including recruitment and performance evaluation, are also part of the duties. Continuous personal and professional development, maintaining comprehensive communication, and performing other assigned duties are expected.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in Social Work (MSW) or a related field.
  • Experience in teaching social work courses.
  • Knowledge of BSW and MSW core curriculum, electives, and field practicum.
  • Proficiency in synchronous and asynchronous educational technologies.
  • Experience in course syllabus development and online course design.
  • Ability to mentor and manage adjunct faculty.
  • Experience in student advising for degree plans and career development.

  • Understanding of professional standards and ethics in social work (CSWE, NASW Code of Ethics).

Responsibilities

  • Teach 12 credit hours per semester in BSW and/or MSW core curriculum, electives, and field practicum courses using synchronous and asynchronous educational technologies.
  • Serve as Lead Instructor for select social work core and elective courses, including developing course syllabi and online course design.
  • Mentor and manage adjunct faculty teaching courses for which the individual serves as Lead Instructor.
  • Advise students for BSW and MSW Social Work degree plans, including professional and career advising.
  • Supervise students participating in student-directed research.
  • Attend monthly department and program meetings.
  • Collaborate closely with School of Social Work full and part-time faculty and staff.
  • Participate in the School of Social Work admissions process, including reviewing applications.
  • Model professional standards and ethics in accordance with WNMU philosophy, CSWE standards, and the NASW Code of Ethics.
  • Participate in assessment and reporting in accordance with CSWE, department, and university policies/practices.
  • Maintain timely and professional communication.
  • Conduct research, program, or other scholarship activities suitable for a teaching university, accommodating undergraduate student inclusion.
  • Provide professional contributions within areas of expertise.
  • Participate in departmental and University committees and special projects.
  • Provide a broad range of administrative and supervisory functions.
  • Supervise assigned staff in accordance with WNMU personnel practices, including recruitment, training, and performance evaluation.
