About The Position

Sportyard is a sports entertainment and training facility in Charleston built around competition, challenges, trick shots, games, and athletic experiences. We're building a media brand around what happens inside Sportyard — and we're looking for a video editor who can turn raw footage into videos people actually want to watch. This is not primarily a graphics or cinematic editing role. The goal is retention. We want someone who understands how to find the hook, eliminate dead time, build tension, create curiosity, and deliver a satisfying payoff.

Requirements

• Comfortable with professional editing software such as Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro, DaVinci Resolve, or equivalent.
• Experience with vertical short-form editing.
• Experience with YouTube editing.
• Experience with captions and motion graphics.
• Experience with sound design.
• Experience with music selection.
• Experience with color correction.
• Experience with multi-camera footage.
• Experience with sports or action content.

Nice To Haves

• Fancy effects are a bonus.
• Storytelling instincts are more important.

Responsibilities

• Take raw footage from Sportyard shoots and turn it into finished content for Instagram Reels / YouTube Shorts / TikTok (typically 15–60 seconds) including challenges, trick shots, competitions, races, athlete/guest collaborations, and behind-the-scenes moments when there's a compelling story.
• Edit longer challenge and competition videos for YouTube (approximately 3–8 minutes initially), focusing on story-driven edits rather than simple highlight reels.
• Watch footage, understand what actually happened, and determine the strongest way to tell the story, as detailed shot-by-shot scripts will not always be provided.
• Consistently publish videos that grab attention in the first 1–2 seconds, give viewers an immediate reason to keep watching, turn simple sports competitions and challenges into compelling stories, maintain strong pacing without making every video feel over-edited, and build anticipation around the outcome or payoff.
• Generate shares, comments, followers, and repeat viewers.
• Develop recognizable Sportyard content formats that can be repeated and scaled.
• Help identify which concepts and editing styles deserve to become recurring series.
