About The Position

This is an interim position for a Middle School Social Studies Teacher at East Ridge Middle School. The job goal is to teach one or more subjects to students and lead them toward the fulfillment of their potential for intellectual, emotional, and psychological growth and maturation. The position involves fostering social behavior, preparing and delivering lessons, managing classroom behavior, observing student progress, communicating with parents, administering tests, and maintaining a positive learning environment. The teacher will also uphold school policies, be available to students and parents, represent the school positively, and report any suspected child abuse or neglect. Active promotion of computer/technology use for learning skills is also expected, along with performing other assigned duties.

Requirements

  • Minimum bachelor's degree
  • Valid teacher's license with appropriate endorsement(s): 001, 014, 015, 016, 017, 081, 101, 123, 126, 127, 128, 129, 210, 211, 212, 213, 214, 400, 401, 402, 415, 416, 417, 418, 419, 440, 926, 927, 928, 929
  • Strong written, verbal, presentation, and interpersonal skills
  • Computer utilization skills
  • Meets health and physical requirements

Responsibilities

  • Supervises activities such as field trips, group discussions, and dramatic playacting, to stimulate students' interest in and broaden understanding of their physical and social environment
  • Fosters cooperative social behavior through games and group projects to assist students in forming satisfying relationships with other students and adults
  • Prepares for assigned classes and shows evidence of preparation upon request of immediate supervisor
  • Encourages students to maintain standards of classroom behavior
  • Observes students to detect signs of ill health or emotional disturbance and to evaluate progress
  • Discusses students' problems and progress with parents
  • Administers diagnostic tests and evaluates students' progress on a regular basis
  • Develops and maintains a classroom environment conducive to learning
  • Assists in upholding board policies, school rules, and administrative regulations
  • Makes self available to students and parents for education-related purposes outside the instructional day when requested to do so
  • Represents the school and the community in a positive manner
  • Reports to the principal when there is knowledge or reasonable suspicion that a child's health or welfare has been or appears to have been harmed as a result of abuse or neglect
  • Actively promotes the use of computer/technology to develop learning skills
  • Performs other duties as assigned
