About The Position

Georgia Fugees Academy Charter School (GFACS) is seeking a Social Studies Teacher for grades 6-12 who is deeply committed to the Fugees Family, Inc. mission and willing to exceed expectations to support students, families, and staff. This is a 10-month, exempt position reporting to the School Leader. While the program starts at the middle school level, the instructional scope begins with Kindergarten-level material, as most Fugees Academy students enter middle school performing significantly below grade level.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 2 years of full-time teaching high school level science, preferably in an urban setting.
  • A minimum of an undergraduate degree.
  • Georgia Teaching Certification.
  • Demonstrated ability to create and maintain a warm, yet strict and orderly classroom environment.
  • Demonstrated expertise in the subject area and demonstrated student achievement results.
  • Citizenship, residency, or a work VISA in the United States is required.
  • Excellent command of the English language with a passion for supporting expressive language in non-native speakers.
  • A strong sense of loving accountability and individual and collective responsibility.
  • Belief that all students are capable of academic achievement.
  • Commitment to building deep, authentic relationships with students and families.
  • Duties and expectations are carried out in a positive, productive, accurate, and punctual/on-time manner.
  • Receptiveness to coaching, mentoring, feedback, and performance evaluations for professional growth and development.

Responsibilities

  • Teach social studies classes using a variety of lesson presentation techniques to accommodate different learning styles and language proficiency levels, meeting students at their current level while adhering strictly to the approved curriculum and materials.
  • Build trauma-informed connections to facilitate learning.
  • Implement classroom management strategies that emphasize mutual respect and positive reinforcement.
  • Utilize outstanding instructional skills to motivate and challenge students.
  • Identify and teach essential lagging skills necessary for student growth.
  • Foster intrinsic motivation for learning in students.
