About The Position

The Institute for the Creative Arts (ICA), Arkansas's first Performing & Visual Arts High School, is seeking outstanding Social Studies teachers for grades 9-12. ICA is a charter school with a mission to empower students through an intensive arts and academic curriculum, preparing them for higher education, creative careers, and leadership in the arts industries. Students split their day between a specific arts program and a rigorous academic program. This is a unique opportunity for exceptional instructors to join an innovative high school located in a new, state-of-the-art facility on a 10-acre campus.

Requirements

  • A Bachelors degree in the core content area of teaching.
  • Experience teaching high school students.
  • Experience working with public school officials and parents.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with other ICA instructors and artist-teachers to provide assistance with student projects and performances when needed.
  • Must meet AR licensure requirements in core content areas or meet Arkansas Qualified Teacher requirements.

Nice To Haves

  • Masters degree a plus.
  • Three years of teaching experience, particularly at the high school level.
  • Team builder and possessing excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to collaborate and involve community partners.
  • Ability to recruit and mentor students.
  • Ability to work with instructors and students across disciplines.
  • Interest in working in a creative environment with significant time spent in small group and one-on-one learning.
  • Interest in working in an arts school with creative students.
  • Possess the ability to assist students in their creative endeavors.

Responsibilities

  • Direct and evaluate the learning experiences of the pupil in both curricular and extra-curricular activities in accordance with school policies.
  • Provide guidance to the pupil which will promote his welfare and his proper educational development.
  • Maintain liaison with the parents.
  • Teach and administer the classroom program.
  • Provide for the care and protection of school property.
  • Participate in the business and activities of the faculty.
  • Cooperate with and participate in planning and evaluation of the school program.
  • Notify the Dean and Department Director as early as possible when it is necessary to be absent from school.
  • Maintain a cordial and workable relationship with colleagues.
  • Inform the Dean and Department Director of any action or situation which has affected or may affect the normal classroom activities and which requires supervisory attention.
  • Study and comply with School Board policy.
  • Work collaboratively in Professional Learning Communities to promote the arts and assist students in their arts activities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
