About The Position
FlexTech High School - Shepherd is hiring a Social Studies Teacher for the 26/27 school year. The FlexTech High School network is growing. FlexTech High Schools are small, personalized high schools that offer project-based curriculum and flexible scheduling. We are looking for a dynamic educator to serve as a classroom teacher and join our wonderful team of educators. FlexTech teachers are passionate, adaptive, responsive, and innovative. They seek to reimagine the high school experience for today’s teens and believe in rigorous, relevant and real-world learning for all students. Specifically, we are seeking an individual who: We are seeking a passionate and dedicated Social Studies Teacher to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of social studies concepts, a passion for teaching, and the ability to engage students in meaningful discussions about history, geography, economics, and social issues. The Social Studies Teacher will create an inclusive classroom environment that encourages curiosity, respect, and a genuine interest in the social sciences.
Requirements
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail in planning and assessing educational activities.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with students, parents, and colleagues.
- Strong knowledge of social studies curriculum, educational best practices, and assessment methods.
- Valid teaching certification/license in Michigan for secondary education with an endorsement in the subject.
- Bachelor's degree in Social Studies Education, History, Political Science, or a related field.
Nice To Haves
- A master's degree is a plus.
Responsibilities
- Assist/lift students, as necessary
- Be able to perform first aid/CPR if necessary
- Withstand a moderate noise level
- Withstand all demands presented by outside weather conditions at any time of the year
- Occasionally sit on the floor or bend down/squat
- Stand and walk frequently
- Occasionally lift/move objects weighing up to 25lbs
- Effective oral and written communication skills

- Supervision of multiple students at once
- Regular and predictable attendance

- Collaborate with colleagues to align curricula and participate in ongoing professional development initiatives.
- Develop assessments and monitor student performance through various methods, including tests, quizzes, projects, and presentations.
- Develop and implement comprehensive lesson plans that meet the curriculum standards and cater to diverse learning styles.
- Encourage critical thinking and discussions around social studies topics, including but not limited to history, culture, citizenship, and global issues.
