About The Position

The Social Services Assistant will perform a variety of duties at the front window and surrounding area of Social Services. The position and duties support the staff while providing assistance to the community in emergency services.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent. Significant experience may be considered in lieu of.
  • Two years plus of experience in a receptionist, front desk, customer service or administrative support role preferred.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including experience or capacity to demonstrate positive interpersonal skills and work as a cooperative team member.
  • Close attention to detail and a high level of confidentiality
  • Ability to multi-task several projects concurrently
  • Must have an interest and ability to work with people of diverse racial, ethnic, and socio-economic backgrounds in a sensitive and culturally appropriate manner.
  • Ability to establish and implement policies and procedures.
  • Demonstrated awareness of budget resources and cost control, as well as planning and administering budgets.
  • Proficiency in computer software applications, including demonstrated experience in using email, MS Office applications.
  • This individual will only commit resources of The Salvation Army that have been allocated or approved.
  • This individual will adhere to all policies and procedures in carrying out the responsibilities of this position. The individual will keep the designated Supervisor informed of all critical issues relating to their area of responsibility.

Responsibilities

  • Provide administrative support to the Assistant Director of Social Services by assisting with scheduling, maintaining records and documentation, preparing reports and correspondence, coordinating department communications and performing other clerical and organizational duties as assigned.
  • Work in coordination with the administrative staff for support and relief needs including but not limited to telephone support, mailroom management, front lobby operations, etc.
  • Acknowledge and greet individuals entering the front lobby.
  • Promptly answer the telephone and collect pertinent information from the client or transfer them effectively to the appropriate staff.
  • Build knowledge of program specific criteria to field calls for The Salvation Army.
  • Collect copies of individuals ID, bills or any and other required paperwork for assistance.
  • Complete filing of client records for case management staff.
  • Assist with Utility Emergency Assistance requests and process appropriate paperwork.
  • Successfully satisfy the training requirements associated to the position and as required by The Salvation Army.
