Join Our Team at Tallahassee State College Social Sciences Adjunct Pool Tallahassee State College (TSC), recently recognized as one of the Most Promising Places to Work in Community Colleges for 2026, is currently seeking to build an applicant pool for the position of Social Sciences Adjunct Faculty with the Social Science Division. We’re looking for individuals who share our commitment to fostering a vibrant campus community. NOTE: This position is primarily for in-person, on-campus courses taught a variation of days (Monday through Friday) on Main Campus in Tallahassee, Florida. Courses time blocks are during the morning, mid-day, and afternoon. A small amount of evening courses may also be offered. Some online courses may be available for highly qualified candidates with experience teaching in the Community College setting via Canvas LMS.

Requirements

  • A Master’s degree in the specific teaching discipline (ex. History, Psychology, etc.) or a Master’s degree with at least 18 graduate semester hours in the specified discipline (specifically covering the topic of the course to be taught) is required in addition to teaching experience, preferably within a community college setting.
  • Commitment to student retention and success.
  • Commitment to development and assessment of student learning.
  • Use of technology and innovative approaches to enhance teaching and learning, including distance learning and alternative delivery systems.
  • Willingness to support a population of learners inside and beyond the classroom.
  • Ability to work in a participatory and collegial setting.
  • Extensive knowledge of the subject area(s) in which the individual is responsible for instruction.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the fundamentals of effective communication and of effective instruction.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the characteristics and challenges of community college students.
  • Knowledge and understanding of principles of curriculum development.
  • Computer literacy and ability to navigate in a Windows environment.
  • Knowledge and ability to use and navigate the Canvas Learning Management System.
  • Must be engaging and focused on student success; the ability to interact with students in a group and one-on-one situations is expected.
  • The ability to meet teaching deadlines (i.e. attendance, grading) and work with students on their response to assignments in a timely manner.
  • Graduate transcripts are necessary to verify that your coursework meets the graduate level course requirements for the position you are applying for.
  • Applicants must be able/willing to teach a variety of courses within the discipline as needed.
  • Level II Background Check is required for all hired employees.
  • A drug screen may be required based on the specific requirements of the position for which the application is being submitted.
  • Employment is contingent upon the passing of a drug test and upon completion of a level 2 criminal background investigation.

  • Provide instruction, service and support of college policies and procedures, along with opportunities for professional development.
  • Facilitate classroom discussion and evaluate student performance in a timely manner with timely feedback.
  • Adhere to course guidelines and outcomes.
  • Maintain records of student attendance, involvement and progress.
  • Be responsive and have frequent communication with students, colleagues and supervisors.
