About The Position

This position is for a Social Media Specialist within the Conservation Outreach Section, aiming to strengthen support for wildlife management by demonstrating the value of wildlife to all Utahns. The role involves connecting directly with the public by managing and creating content for various social media channels including Facebook, Instagram, X, Threads, and YouTube. The ideal candidate is a creative, detail-oriented communicator passionate about Utah's outdoors, wildlife, hunting, fishing, or shooting sports.

Requirements

  • A Bachelor's degree or higher in one of the following areas: Social media, English, technical writing, communication, journalism, marketing or another closely related field, or directly related work experience equivalent.

  • Professional work experience coordinating social media communication strategies.
  • Professional work experience managing a variety of company social media accounts.
  • Exceptional communication skills with the ability to articulate complex information in ways that are interesting and easy for the public to understand.
  • Creative storytelling skills using a variety of social media features.
  • Experience coordinating social media strategies designed to increase participation in outdoor recreation activities.
  • Experience with basic video and audio editing using professional software or web-based tools, such as Adobe Express and Meta's editing tools.

Responsibilities

  • Create clear, compelling visual content to post to the DWR's social media accounts that follow current Associated Press Style and DWR standards.
  • Manage the DWR Facebook, Instagram, X, Threads, YouTube, LinkedIn and Pinterest accounts.
  • Maintain a weekly content calendar that plans and tracks posts on DWR's social media accounts.
  • Stay up to date on social media trends and opportunities, and make recommendations based on those trends.
  • Utilize a reporting tool to provide monthly analytics on account activity and successes.
  • Work with employees in DWR regions and at DWR facilities to maintain a content schedule and to provide constructive feedback on their channels and posts.
  • Collaborate with other sections within the agency to brainstorm and execute social media campaign ideas.
  • Launch paid ads and boosted posts to help reach communications goals.
  • Engage and interact with DWR’s customers in the comment sections and inboxes.
  • Establish and maintain clear communication with DWR partners for collaborative social media messaging.
  • Attend occasional fieldwork activities to provide timely, behind-the-scenes stories that uniquely showcase fish and wildlife management work.
  • Update the agency’s social media guidelines as needed.
