About The Position

The Social Media Specialist II coordinates and maintains university presence on social media on a daily basis, including developing content to creatively communicate UA's messages on all digital platforms under close supervision. Works closely with Marketing Department within Strategic Communications to maximize digital efforts. Responds to questions/comments on social platforms after conferring with supervisor. Tracks metrics and compiles monthly report. Monitors social media accounts and elevates concerns to supervisor. Creates content to include graphics and videos through platforms such as Adobe Creative Suite and Canva. Covers live events for social media on campus on campus during and outside of normal working hours, including nights and weekends. Develops strategies for increasing engagement and reach of UA’s social media platforms with an emphasis on benchmarking against SEC competitors as well as other peer institutions. This role specifically coordinates and maintains The University of Alabama, UA Undergraduate Admissions, and University President's presence on social media on a daily basis. It involves monitoring social media accounts regularly with an emphasis on sentiment and engagement of the brand, and responding to questions and comments in a timely manner.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree and two (2) years of social media, digital marketing, public relations, advertising, and/or communications experience; OR master’s degree or higher and some social media, digital marketing, public relations, advertising, and/or communications experience.
  • Must have valid U.S. driver's license.
  • Must be at least 19 years of age at time of hire and have an acceptable Motor Vehicle Report that is in compliance with University policies.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Working knowledge of social media analytics.
  • Ability to take photos and video for social media use.
  • Familiarity with accessibility practices as it pertains to social media.
  • Proficient with mobile devices and common social media apps (Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, LinkedIn, and X).
  • Ability to work nights and weekends as required.
  • Ability to sit and work at a computer or other digital device for long periods of time.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, journalism, public relations, or advertising.
  • Experience with Basecamp, Adobe Creative Suite, CapCut, Canva, and Sprout Social.
  • Experience maintaining a social media presence in a professional capacity, such as for a brand or company.
