Social Media Manager (Contract)

Parents Together FoundationWashington, DC
$3,000 - $3,500Remote

About The Position

ParentsTogether is a cutting-edge nonprofit impact media organization that reaches 1 in 3 parents in the US with useful, relatable content that families love. We meet overwhelmed parents where they are with news, resources, and entertainment that help them navigate the highs and lows of raising kids today, while at the same time building a community united around a core idea: Parents are powerful and together we can help all families thrive. Founded in 2012, today ParentsTogether has over 3 million members and reaches tens of millions more parents through social media, online issue organizing, and civic engagement. We're looking for a sharp, platform-native social media operator to own the day-to-day management and growth of our accounts on YouTube, Instagram, and TikTok. You'll be the hands on the keyboard — scheduling and posting content, engaging with our community, monitoring performance, and proactively finding opportunities to grow our presence. You'll work closely with our Director of Content and Digital Communications Manager, but you'll bring your own instincts about what's working on each platform and where the opportunities are. We're looking for someone excited to join a small team who’s excited about growing our existing channels and building something from the ground up.

Requirements

  • 2 to 5 years of experience managing social media accounts in a professional capacity, including in house, agency, or freelance environments.
  • Demonstrated ownership of account growth, with clear examples of building from zero or materially accelerating existing performance.
  • Fluency across TikTok, Instagram including Reels, Stories, and feed, and YouTube including Shorts and long form.
  • Strong platform instincts, with the ability to adapt content to each environment rather than treating distribution as interchangeable.
  • Experience managing publishing workflows at pace, including use of scheduling tools such as Later, Buffer, Hootsuite, or similar, and comfort working within native analytics to inform iteration.
  • Strong writing skills, with the ability to produce captions, comment responses, and outreach that feel natural, specific, and consistent with a defined voice.
  • Comfortable writing in voices that are not your own and maintaining that consistency across accounts.
  • Clear understanding of audience engagement dynamics, particularly with a parenting demographic.
  • Ability to identify what builds trust over time versus what drives disengagement.
  • Comfort operating in an experimental environment, including testing formats, iterating quickly, and applying performance insights to improve outcomes.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in education, online safety, economic security/affordability, or lifestyle media is a plus.
  • Experience with paid social or boosted content, familiarity with AI tools in a content workflow, and experience managing accounts in civic, media, or nonprofit contexts are a plus.
  • Experience with Meta Ads Manager and TikTok Ads Manager is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Handle the back-end management of our YouTube, Instagram, and TikTok accounts — scheduling, publishing, captioning, tagging, and platform-specific optimization for every piece of content.
  • Keep things running smoothly across multiple accounts simultaneously, staying on top of specs, timing, and platform best practices.
  • Monitor and manage comments across all platforms, responding to followers and engaging with commenters in the authentic voice of each account.
  • Lead proactive, daily engagement with similar accounts, creators, and communities across our platforms — following, commenting, and collaborating in ways that expand our reach and build relationships.
  • Produce some content for the channels to help them grow – especially static posts (memes, carousels, IG stories, etc) to supplement short-form video.
  • Support or lead boosted content campaigns on Instagram and TikTok — understanding how to allocate small budgets effectively to amplify organic content that's already working.
  • Stay current on algorithm changes, emerging formats, and platform trends — especially as they relate to reaching parenting audiences that might be politically disengaged.
  • Bring intelligence on platform trends to the team proactively.
