Social Media Manager (contract)

The RealestLos Angeles, CA

About The Position

We are seeking a hands-on Social Media Manager who is both a creator and a strategist, focused on producing engaging content rather than just managing a calendar. The primary responsibility is to create short-form content daily, transforming everyday occurrences related to The Realest into compelling content that captures audience attention. The role leverages the abundant natural content within the business, including its founder, merchandise, auctions, athletes, artists, partners, and customers. The core function involves quickly identifying stories, framing them appropriately, shooting and editing them, and distributing them rapidly across platforms. This position emphasizes speed, autonomy, and experimentation, encouraging the testing of multiple ideas over prolonged deliberation. Individual post performance is secondary to the pace of learning and adaptation.

Requirements

  • A maker mentality with a focus on content creation and rapid execution.
  • Ability to work fast and autonomously, identifying and pursuing content opportunities without waiting for direction.
  • Fluency in internet culture and an understanding of where audience attention is directed, with the ability to filter this through an elevated brand lens.
  • A blend of creativity and analytical skills, with an appreciation for both compelling content and data insights.
  • Genuine understanding and passion for why memorabilia matters to collectors.
  • A strong portfolio showcasing short-form content personally shot and edited.
  • Hands-on proficiency in filming and editing using tools such as Adobe Premiere, CapCut, or similar.
  • Fluency across Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, X, and Facebook, including understanding their respective cultures and algorithms.
  • An instinct for identifying and developing repeatable content formats and franchises.
  • Comfort with analytics, including native platform insights and Google Analytics, and the ability to act on data.
  • Genuine interest in sports, music, or movie memorabilia.

Nice To Haves

  • Phone-first content creation is acceptable, with emphasis on visual 'eye' over gear.
  • Flexibility to travel for key events.

Responsibilities

  • Create great content daily.
  • Produce short-form video daily, including recognizing stories, framing, shooting, editing, and publishing.
  • Transform natural content (merchandise, auctions, athletes, artists, partners, customers, live moments) into engaging posts.
  • Concept, capture, and edit content for Reels, TikToks, Shorts, Stories, graphics, and real-time updates native to each platform.
  • Maintain The Realest's brand voice: real, in-the-know, and tailored for collectors.
  • Partner on founder-led content, identifying authentic opportunities that align with the brand.
  • Tell customer and collector stories.
  • Engage actively on X (formerly Twitter), participating in discussions and connecting with the collector community.
  • Capture reactions of collectors receiving items and moments with athletes and partners.
  • Build repeatable content formats, templates, and franchises.
  • Develop recurring series to establish a recognizable brand rhythm and identity.
  • Experiment with content, analyze performance (views, saves, shares, follower growth), and adapt strategies based on data.
  • Stay informed about internet culture, formats, and trends, translating them through The Realest's brand lens.
  • Run creator and influencer engagement as a secondary focus, identifying and collaborating with individuals who align with the brand's mission.
