Social Media Engineering Intern (Fall 2026)
About The Position
Formlabs is seeking a Social Media Engineering Intern for Fall 2026 to join their Communications and Social Media team. This role involves creating compelling video content that showcases the company's 3D printing technology and its applications. The intern will be responsible for the end-to-end video production process, from ideation and filming to editing and publishing across various social media platforms. The position requires a hands-on creator with a technical mindset, social media fluency, strong storytelling abilities, and the capacity to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment. The internship is a full-time, onsite position in Somerville, MA, running from September 14 through December 18, 2026.
Requirements
- Hands-on experience with video editing software (Premiere, DaVinci, Final Cut, etc.).
- A knack for creating engaging video content.
- Enjoyment of physical making, tinkering, or understanding how things work.
- Understanding of digital platforms (TikTok, Instagram Reels, YouTube, LinkedIn) and what makes content go viral.
- An eye for spotting incredible technical applications and turning them into compelling narratives that balance fun, humor, and professionalism.
- Comfortable taking an idea from concept to finished export independently.
- Adaptable and ready to balance multiple deadlines.
Nice To Haves
- Experience with 3D design/CAD or 3D printing is a major plus.
Responsibilities
- Own social video projects from pitch to hitting publish, including pitching trends/ideas, setting up prints on Formlabs printers, filming the process, editing high-energy videos, and distributing them across channels.
- Work self-sufficiently on quick-turn stories while integrating seamlessly into the larger social media team to support broader marketing initiatives.
- Showcase physical parts, prints, and engineering projects in compelling, visual ways that resonate with engineers, artists, doctors, and makers.
- Support reporting and analytics to measure content performance, refine strategies, and optimize for reach and engagement.
- Spot real-time social trends, viral audio, and maker-community conversations, acting fast to translate them into relevant Formlabs content.
