About The Position

Explore Edmonton is seeking a Social Media Engagement Specialist to join the Communications and Global Marketing team. Reporting to the Digital Marketing Manager, the Social Media Engagement Specialist plays a key role in leading social media execution for Explore Edmonton's Community Initiatives & Agriculture and Venues portfolios. This includes supporting the Edmonton Convention Centre, Edmonton EXPO Centre, and major events such as KDays, CFR, and Farmfair International. Working collaboratively with marketing teams across the organization, this role develops and executes social media strategies, creates engaging content, manages online communities, and helps grow Explore Edmonton's digital presence through compelling storytelling and audience engagement.

Requirements

  • Post-secondary education in marketing, communications, tourism, business, or a related field.
  • Two to three years of experience in social media, digital marketing, communications, tourism, hospitality, or a related industry.
  • Strong understanding of social media platforms, audience engagement strategies, and digital marketing best practices.
  • Experience creating and editing short-form video and photo content for social media channels.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with strong attention to detail.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build relationships with stakeholders, industry partners, content creators, and the public.
  • Experience analyzing social media performance metrics and using insights to inform strategy and decision-making.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Creative, solution-oriented, and passionate about social media, digital storytelling, and emerging technologies.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of Edmonton, its events, attractions, and visitor experiences is considered an asset.
  • Experience with Canva, HeyOrca, Adobe Creative Suite, Facebook Ads Manager, influencer marketing, and social media analytics tools is considered an asset.
  • Ability to work occasional overtime as required, particularly during event operational periods such as KDays and CFR.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and monitor social media channels across the Community Initiatives & Agriculture and Venues portfolios.
  • Lead online engagement with event attendees, stakeholders, business audiences, and potential visitors.
  • Monitor social conversations and support active listening initiatives during major events, conferences, and festivals.
  • Develop and execute organic and paid social media strategies in collaboration with marketing partners.
  • Schedule, publish, and monitor social media content across multiple platforms.
  • Analyze social media performance, identify trends, and make recommendations to optimize campaigns and audience engagement.
  • Lead social content strategy development and asset acquisition for the Community Initiatives & Agriculture and Venues portfolios.
  • Conceptualize, capture, and edit short-form video and photo content for social media platforms, including Instagram, TikTok, and Facebook.
  • Attend owned and attracted events for live interaction, content capture, and on-site social media posting.
  • Collaborate with event producers, agencies, influencers, and content creators to increase engagement and support organizational objectives.
  • Ensure brand compliance and stewardship across all social media content and channels.
  • Support campaign planning, reporting, strategic recommendations, and social media best practices across the organization.
