About The Position

Olds College of Agriculture & Technology is seeking a driven and creative individual to join our Corporate Communications & External Relations department. We are looking for a candidate who is eager to jump in on various PR, marketing and communications initiatives and who has experience with social media management, content creation and other communications projects. The Social Media & Communications Coordinator is responsible for developing, executing, and evaluating integrated communications and marketing strategies that support internal clients, shared services, and corporate functions across the College. This role leads the creation and management of engaging, data-informed content across all social media platforms to enhance brand awareness and audience engagement, while also supporting broader communications initiatives including internal communications, special projects, and institutional storytelling. Working collaboratively with colleagues, Communications Leads, and the External Relations team, this position ensures consistent, unified messaging across all channels and contributes to strategic planning and campaign development that advances the College’s overall objectives.

Requirements

  • Must be an excellent writer with a minimum of three years’ experience in journalism, marketing, social media, communications or public relations with an emphasis on content creation.
  • Minimum two-year diploma in social media marketing, journalism, marketing, or communications required (or similar field); bachelor's degree strongly preferred.
  • Experience with social media platforms, social listening tools and methods of monitoring analytics.
  • Resourceful self-starter with the ability to adapt quickly to changing priorities and managing tasks from multiple partners.
  • Proven ability to build and maintain strong relationships with colleagues and internal client groups.
  • Demonstrated success in creating and executing communications plans and initiatives from start to finish.
  • Must be able to translate technical information into easy to understand content.
  • Independent worker with good judgment and the ability to take projects from concept to completion.
  • Ability to bring new ways of thinking and fresh ideas to the communications team.
  • Technical savvy with the G-Suite and Canva.
  • Should be highly organized and have good attention to detail with strong project management skills.
  • Strong time management skills and desire to be highly productive are a must.
  • Strong written, verbal and critical thinking skills.
  • Knowledge of CP style and the conventions of English grammar.
  • Ability to work in a team environment or independently.
  • Must be able to effectively manage competing priorities and work well under tight deadlines.
  • A creative team-player, who is curious and not afraid to ask questions.
  • Current Criminal Reference check with a Vulnerable Sector Check that is free of any offenses.
  • Must respect and actively promote health and safety policies.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with InDesign and Photoshop is a definite bonus.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the development of social media copy, graphics, animations/motion graphics, photography, and video assets across all official channels.
  • Oversee and manage daily community engagement across platforms to grow audience numbers and strengthen connections with existing publics.
  • Monitor social listening tools, analyze campaign performance metrics, and deliver strategic recommendations to increase campaign reach and efficacy.
  • Build collaborative relationships with internal client teams (e.g., Athletics, Indigenous Services, Health & Wellness, Retail Stores) to understand communication needs and provide guidance.
  • Work with departmental leaders to develop and execute comprehensive strategic marketing and communications plans.
  • Establish media contacts, draft press releases, pitch stories, and prepare internal clients for media interviews.
  • Advise the Corporate & Internal Communications Manager regarding departmental expenditure priorities supporting internal events and client projects.
  • Design and produce print and digital collateral, including brochures, postcards, and event promotional materials.
  • Research and write magazine articles, web feature stories, and press materials translating complex/technical topics into accessible content.
  • Plan, arrange, and manage professional photo and video shoots.
  • Assist with set up, photo/video capture, and promotional support for internal client events as needed.
