About The Position

Newsweek is seeking a U.S.-based Social Media Freelancer to provide weekend coverage for a three-month assignment. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a fast-paced digital environment and enjoys engaging audiences across platforms. The freelancer is expected to complete key deliverables on Saturday and Sundays from 8:00 am ET to 7:00 pm ET to ensure Newsweek’s social presence remains active, timely, and aligned with editorial priorities over the weekend.

Requirements

  • Prior experience managing social media accounts for a brand, publication, or organization.
  • Strong understanding of social platforms, trends, and best practices.
  • Ability to work independently and make quick editorial judgments.
  • Excellent communication skills and attention to detail.
  • Weekend availability is required.
  • Must be US-based.

Responsibilities

  • Post and manage content across Newsweek’s social media channels (Facebook, Twitter/X, Instagram, TikTok, Bluesky, Threads, WhatsApp, Reddit and LinkedIn).
  • Create and schedule four posts per hour to drive engagement, referrals, and monetization, while working closely with the editorial team to ensure timely and accurate content.
  • Monitor comments and trends; respond appropriately to foster community interaction.
  • Collaborate with editors to amplify breaking news and trending stories during weekend hours.
  • Track performance of weekend content and provide insights to the social media team.
  • Increase weekend social referrals and monetization through carefully crafted content that engages with Newsweek’s active readership.
  • Ensure all posts reflect Newsweek’s voice, editorial standards, and visual identity.
  • Communicate with editorial and digital teams to align social strategy with newsroom priorities.
