Social Art Director

Tuckernuck Inc•Washington, DC
•$125,000 - $140,000

About The Position

Tuckernuck is seeking a Social Art Director to lead the visual expression of their brand across organic social channels. The ideal candidate is passionate about social media, understands its nuances, and can create content that feels native, useful, entertaining, and human. The goal is to make Tuckernuck's social channels a true extension of the brand, offering inspiration, advice, discovery, and a direct connection to customers. This role involves translating stories and ideas into compelling social-first creative, determining how these stories come to life visually across platforms and formats. It's a hands-on position requiring both conceptualization and execution, from art directing larger shoots to capturing content on an iPhone and editing on the go. The Social Art Director will collaborate with Social Channel Owners to align with channel goals and performance, and with the Editorial Director to translate narratives into engaging social content.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of experience in art direction, social creative, content creation, editorial, fashion, lifestyle, or a related creative field.
  • Portfolio demonstrating a sophisticated visual eye and strong social-first storytelling.
  • Demonstrated experience developing creative specifically for social platforms.
  • Strong photography and video instincts, including the ability to capture high-quality content on an iPhone.
  • Working knowledge of lightweight photo and video editing tools.
  • Experience art directing both scrappy/social-native content and more produced creative.
  • Strong understanding of major social platforms, formats, trends, and audience behaviors.
  • Fashion, lifestyle, retail, editorial, or consumer brand experience strongly preferred.
  • Passionate about social. This is the most important qualification. You genuinely love social media, consume it constantly, understand its culture, and are excited by how quickly it evolves.
  • A strong visual storyteller with excellent taste and a clear creative point of view.
  • Social-native - you understand the difference between creating an ad or campaign asset and creating something people actually want to watch in their feed.
  • Equally comfortable concepting, art directing, shooting on an iPhone, and making a quick edit.
  • Naturally curious about fashion, style, interiors, entertaining, travel, culture, and the world around the Tuckernuck customer.
  • Comfortable working collaboratively with editorial, social, marketing, merchandising, fashion, design, and production teams.
  • Able to balance brand consistency with experimentation and speed.
  • Comfortable receiving performance feedback and using data to make creative better without allowing metrics to flatten creativity.
  • Resourceful and proactive - you see an opportunity for content and figure out how to make it happen.
  • Comfortable traveling and occasionally working outside traditional hours when events, launches, or real-time social moments require it.
  • Comfortable working in Figma and able to edit and adapt existing design files and templates created by the Brand and Digital Design teams.
  • Able to use established graphic systems independently for quick-turn social content; updating imagery, copy, layouts, and formats while maintaining the integrity of the original design.
  • Familiarity with lightweight motion, video editing, or other social content creation tools is also a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Own the visual creative direction of Tuckernuck's organic social presence across Instagram, TikTok, Pinterest, and emerging platforms.
  • Translate Tuckernuck's broader brand identity into a distinct, recognizable, and social-native visual language.
  • Partner with the Editorial Director to determine how stories come to life on social, from the initial concept through execution.
  • Develop social-first creative concepts around fashion, styling, home, entertaining, travel, occasions, culture, and the Tuckernuck lifestyle.
  • Find ways to make Tuckernuck genuinely useful and advice-driven—creating content customers want to save, share, reference, and return to.
  • Balance polished brand storytelling with spontaneous, personality-driven, behind-the-scenes, and real-time content.
  • Ensure everything feels unmistakably Tuckernuck without feeling overly branded or overly produced.
  • Work closely with Social Channel Owners to understand the role, audience, goals, and measures of success for each platform.
  • Translate channel strategy and performance insights into stronger creative ideas and executions.
  • Understand that what works on Instagram may not work on TikTok or another emerging platform, and evolve creative accordingly.
  • Use performance insights to continuously improve creative while protecting and strengthening the Tuckernuck brand.
  • Stay deeply immersed in social culture, platform behavior, emerging formats, creators, trends, and changing customer expectations.
  • Be comfortable making content yourself, not just directing others.
  • Capture compelling photo and video content on an iPhone with a strong eye for composition, light, movement, styling, and storytelling.
  • Lightly edit video and imagery for fast-turn social content.
  • Direct talent, employees, creators, and other participants so content feels natural, engaging, and authentic.
  • Identify content opportunities in everyday moments—not every piece of content should require a formal shoot or production.
  • Work with Creative and Production teams on larger shoots when more elevated production is appropriate.
  • Attend and capture Tuckernuck events, activations, shoots, store moments, trips, and other brand experiences when social coverage is important.
  • Be willing to travel as needed to tell the story where it is actually happening.
  • Think quickly in live environments and recognize unexpected moments that can become great social content.
  • Create content that makes customers feel like they are part of the Tuckernuck world, even when they aren't physically there.
