About The Position

The SAY Counselor/Social Worker provides prevention and early intervention services to middle and high school students in designated SAY School Districts. SAY services are designed to help prevent and reduce the use of alcohol and other drugs and decrease the incidence of other social and mental health problems such as substance use/abuse, teen violence, teen depression/anxiety and suicide.

Requirements

  • Minimum Master’s Degree in Social Work or related field.
  • Valid Ohio LSW or LPC required.
  • Possess skill, knowledge and abilities to perform the essential duties of their role; keeps knowledge up to date.
  • Demonstrate ability to perform job responsibilities with a high degree of initiative and independent judgment.
  • Demonstrate awareness, sensitivity and skills in working professionally with diverse individuals, groups and communities who represent various cultural and personal background and characteristics.
  • Communicate clearly using verbal, nonverbal, and written skills in a professional context; demonstrates clear understanding and use of professional language.
  • Adhere to professional values such as honesty, personal responsibility, and accountability; Applies ethical concepts within scope of work and adheres to Agency policies and procedures.
  • Function effectively as a member of a professional team that includes employees, clients and family members.
  • Recognize problems and responds appropriately; gathers information and sorts through it to identify and address root cause issues; makes timely decisions.
  • Anticipate, recognize, and meet the needs of others, whether they are clients or not.
  • Demonstrate competence in utilizing Agency computer systems and software as required to perform essential job functions.
  • Experience working with children, adolescents, and families.

Responsibilities

  • Work collaboratively with school principals, school counselors, teachers and other school personnel regarding the social, behavioral, emotional and environmental issues that impact student success.
  • Provide prevention strategies to help students make healthy decisions and refer students to a higher level of care if needed, for issues including alcohol/drugs/vaping, and conflicts with peers, family, or school.
  • Contact parents when necessary and work with them to obtain a release of information for communication with necessary faculty and staff.
  • Provide pertinent prevention education in the classroom as well as small group sessions for students, focusing on positive coping tools, active listening skills, effective message sending, self-awareness, decision-making, communication strategies, and conflict resolution.
  • Attend parent programs in their school to provide education and serve as a resource to schoolwide programs on topics of concern and interest to parents/guardians and school personnel.
  • Participate in broad, community-wide education programs that promote positive adolescent health when needed.
  • Participate in professional trainings at Bellefaire that support the goals of the program.
  • Maintain timely completion of documentation in accordance with applicable licensing and accreditation regulations and standards.
  • Attend scheduled staff meetings, supervision, and on-going training.
  • Keep all required trainings, certifications and licensure current in accordance with applicable licensing and accreditation regulations and standards.
  • Maintain high standards of ethical and professional conduct and adhere to Agency policies and procedures.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by management.
