About The Position

Assists in supervising and coordinating activities of workers engaged in preparing, cooking and serving food in school cafeterias. This role involves ensuring compliance with ethical standards, administrative directives, and regulations. The assistant manager will help supervise food preparation, cooking, serving, cleaning, and dishwashing activities. They will maintain records of meals served, manage inventory, assist in training new employees, and order necessary food and non-food items. The position also includes acting as Clerk or Student Nutrition Manager in their absence, participating in daily kitchen tasks, and performing other assigned duties.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Minimum of one (1) to three (3) months of related experience and/or training.
  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry.
  • Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
  • Student Nutrition Association Certification or obtain certification within a year of appointment
  • Must be a member of the Student Nutrition Association Certification
  • Must complete each year 10 hours of annual continuing education/training topics as determined by Food and Nutrition Service
  • Must be ServSafe Manager Certified.
  • Employees are given 30 calendar days from the beginning of employee’s employment to obtain the Certified Food Protection Manager certification.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
  • Regularly required to stand; walk; and use hands to finger, handle, or feel.
  • Occasionally required to reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; talk or hear; and taste or smell.
  • Must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
  • Must be able to stand on feet 6 to 8 hours per day.
  • Maintains emotional control under stress.

Responsibilities

  • Complies with the Code of Ethics of the Education Profession; upholds and enforces rules, administrative directives, regulations, GISD school board policies, as well as local, state and federal regulations.
  • Assists in supervising and coordinating activities of workers who prepare, cook, serve food, clean premises and wash dishes.
  • Keeps daily record of meals served and takes inventory of supplies and equipment.
  • Assists in the training of new employee as needed.
  • Assists in the ordering of food and non-food items needed based on the set menus given.
  • Acts as the Clerk in the absence of the Cook-Clerk.
  • Participates in preparing, cooking meals, cleaning of kitchen and other daily tasks of preparing meals.
  • Acts as Student Nutrition Manager in the absence of the Student Nutrition Manager.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
