About The Position

Performs and/or coordinates preventive maintenance and repairs on all snowmaking equipment and machinery. Tasked with most welding projects, including but not limited to, (Structure, Repair, Pipeline, fabrication). Assists in the training of all department employees to operate efficiently and safety all department equipment to include pumps, compressors, electric motors, valves, snowmobiles, computerized control system, and all other functions as system support would require.

Requirements

  • Able to work night or day under inclement weather, extreme conditions, summer or winter outside.
  • Able to lift 75 lbs. and ski or carry heavy loads.
  • Must have a valid US Driver’s license.
  • Must be at least 18 years old.

Nice To Haves

  • High school, trade school or engineering training
  • Five years as full-time mechanic or plant engineer
  • Ski area or snowmaking experience
  • Certified welder or equivalent
  • Working knowledge of computers and how they relate to records specific to preventive maintenance.
  • Proficient skier or snowboarder
  • Working knowledge of total snowmaking plant, its individual parts and how they interrelate.
  • Above average aptitude in math as required to troubleshoot and calibrate complex systems.
  • Colorado Snowmobile Certificate

Responsibilities

  • Develops and implements the comprehensive preventive maintenance program for all systems and department equipment.
  • Welding Duties include: pipeline work, lateral and main line repair, structure welding, fabrication, cutting torch and grinding.
  • Performs maintenance and repairs as required by PM procedures, manufacturers or equipment failure.
  • Coordinates purchasing of all maintenance tools, lubricants, filters, supplies and parts per approved budgets and management directives.
  • Keeps appropriate facilities and equipment in clean, good working order. Includes painting, hydrant repair during the snowmaking season and after shut down, etc.
  • Coordinates and performs specific capital expansion installation projects, such as pipeline component installation, etc.
  • Coordinates repairs and maintenance functions performed by contractors and consultants on all Snowmaking equipment.
  • Coordinates heavy equipment needs for repairs and assigned capital projects.
  • Operation of equipment specific to job requirements, i.e., snow grooming vehicles, snowmobiles, 4x4 ATV’s, trucks, etc.
  • Keeps all record keeping in relation to repairs and preventive maintenance.
  • Welds and fabricates, in order to affect emergency repairs to high pressures of snowmaking, night or day and under all weather conditions.
  • Operates the snowmaking system as needed.
  • Consults with manuals, trade publications, trade associations, vendors, fellow employees, outside schools and training programs in order to stay up to date in new maintenance technologies to improve the efficiency and production of our operation.
  • Assists in budget preparation – operational and capital.
  • Produces safety awareness and handling regulations as put forth in the Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) for regulated substances.
  • Trains employees in the proper use, storage and handling of all hazardous materials used in snowmaking process.
  • Assists with day to day supervision of department.
  • Coordinates and assists Electrical Maintenance in high voltage maintenance of the system.
  • Assist in hiring/discipline and training of department personnel.
  • Assist in good effective departmental communications.
  • Responsible for snowmaking personnel, pertaining to the care and use of the facilities and associated equipment and tools.
  • Functions as an ambassador of Copper Mountain, modeling and sharing the Copper “culture” with our guests and employees.
  • Upholds the most professional image.
