About The Position

Teach guests how to snowboard and enjoy the winter environment. The role requires a love of the sport and a desire to continually improve personal riding skills and teaching ability. Instructors organize and conduct group and private snowboard lessons, demonstrate and communicate proper techniques in accordance with Highlands Snowsports School and American Association of Snowboard Instructors (AASI) guidelines, and provide a safe, fun, and supportive learning environment. Instructors must maintain a strong guest-service attitude, especially while teaching beginners on green terrain, and follow the resort Team Member Handbook and Snowsports School Manual. The work is primarily outdoors in winter conditions that can change throughout the day. Work may include weekends, weekdays, holidays, and some evening instructional programs.

Requirements

Be at least 18 years of age.
Be reliable, dependable, and timely.
Have a genuine desire to share knowledge of snowboarding and inspire others to enjoy the sport.
Have a great guest-service personality.
Have a growth mindset and openness to learning and feedback.
Have basic English language skills.
Be able to work outdoors in extreme and quickly changing winter weather conditions.
Be able to work in a physically challenging environment.
Be available during holiday periods: December 26–31, January 16–18, and February 13–15.
Be available for weekends, weekdays, and holidays.
Be able to lift up to 40 lbs.
Be able to ride for up to 8 hours per day.
Be able to teach snowboard lessons in harsh winter weather, including cold, snow, wind, rain, sleet, and ice.
Be able to ride in snow, low visibility, powder, ice, hard pack, rain, and sleet.

Nice To Haves

PSIA/AASI Level 1 certification (or international equivalent) is strongly encouraged.
Previous snowboard-instructing experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

Organize and conduct group and private snowboard lessons for guests.
Demonstrate and communicate proper snowboard techniques according to Highlands Snowsports School and AASI guidelines.
Set up and maintain an environment conducive to safety, fun, and learning.
Communicate effectively with students, supervisors, managers, and other team members.
Maintain a great guest-service attitude while working with beginner students on green terrain throughout the season.
Adhere to the resort Team Member Handbook and Snowsports School Manual.
Perform other duties as assigned.
