The lodge provides year-round, barrier-free lodging for persons with disabilities, seniors and their families. Reporting to the Grounds and Caretaking Supervisor, the Snow Removal Specialist is responsible for working as a team to ensure the timely removal of snow and ice at William Watson Lodge (WWL) and other Alberta Parks facilities in Kananaskis Country.

Requirements

  • Some high school education and one year of related experience, including operating and maintaining equipment.
  • Recognized Current Standard First Aid and CPR Level “C”/AED Certification (must be maintained as current for the entire period of hire by the employee).
  • Valid Alberta Class 5 Driver’s License or equivalent and clear 3-year Driver’s Abstract, less than 6 demerits.
  • Successful candidates will be required to provide a Criminal Record Check.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience using and maintaining snow clearing equipment and tools.
  • Knowledge of basic ice and snow removal techniques.
  • Knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety (OH&S) and Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS).
  • Experience with loading, unloading and driving a trailer.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook and understanding of Microsoft Office software.
  • Familiarity with Kananaskis Region and surrounding area.
  • Caretaking experience.

Responsibilities

  • Clearing snow at William Watson Lodge, facilities in Peter Lougheed Provincial Park and Bow Valley Provincial Park.
  • Repair and maintenance of equipment and tools.
  • Reporting on equipment status, requirements and safety related issues.
  • Providing assistance on an as-needed basis for ancillary site operations including guest services, custodial operations and trail crew.

  • 11.6% in lieu of benefits and vacation leave
  • 5.6 percent of regular wage earnings instead of paid holidays.
  • 6 percent of regular wage earnings instead of annual vacation pay.
  • Shift premium pay: $3.25 per hour for weekends
