About The Position

The SNL Coach - Afterschool position is a part-time role located in Brooklyn, NY. The primary responsibilities include researching and developing instructional materials and lesson plans, and providing group and/or individual assistance to "at-risk" children and youth in academic and non-academic subjects. This involves keeping curriculum current, designing lesson plans, coordinating with school personnel, administering and grading tests, assessing client strengths, preparing instructional materials, providing instruction and facilitation, teaching conflict resolution techniques, managing classrooms, documenting client progress, participating in progress meetings, and preparing reports. Additional duties may include reviewing homework, coordinating leadership activities, and soliciting internship/job opportunities.

Requirements

  • Proven three years of professional experience/specialization.
  • Ability and willingness to participate in field trips, requiring dealing with outdoor weather conditions during working hours.
  • Must obtain Dept. of Health fingerprinting; doctor's note certifying good health; proof of negative results from TB test; and State Central Registry (SCR) clearance.
  • Ability to maintain State Central Registry (SCR) clearance and fingerprint clearance throughout the duration of employment.

Responsibilities

  • Research new materials and methods of instruction to keep curriculum current and relevant.
  • Design daily lesson plans to meet core course objectives.
  • Coordinate curriculum and daily activities with school personnel, as appropriate.
  • Administer and grade appropriate pre-and-post testing.
  • Assess clients' strengths in order to build upon them.
  • Prepare and distribute instructional materials for classroom use.
  • Provide individual and group instruction/facilitation on the subject(s) of the course.
  • Provide training in and/or utilizes techniques for resolving conflicts non-violently in group settings.
  • Manage classrooms and/or small groups effectively to maximize client learning.
  • Document client progress on daily/weekly/monthly/semester/academic year bases.
  • Participate in client progress meetings/conferences with parents and school personnel.
  • Participate in administrative and staff meetings as requested.
  • Provide all required information for weekly/monthly/quarterly/annual reports.
  • May review all homework assignments as required by funder.
  • May coordinate client leadership activities.
  • May actively solicit and coordinate internship/job opportunities for clients.
  • Tasks may be modified, expanded and/or assigned over time.
