About The Position

The SMT Technician II is responsible for operating and maintaining SMT equipment, including pick-and-place machines, solder paste printers, and reflow ovens, to support PCB assembly. Key duties include performing AOI inspections, troubleshooting process issues. The role also involves collaborating with the engineering and production teams to ensure quality standards and optimize efficiency, to maintain compliance with safety and industry protocols. This position requires access to information controlled under the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) or the Export Administration Regulations (EAR), the successful candidate must be a "U.S. person" as defined in the ITAR and EAR (which generally means (i) be a citizen or national of the United States; or (ii) be a lawful permanent resident of the United States; or (iii) have been admitted to the United States as a refugee, or have been granted asylum, as specified under applicable law.

Requirements

  • Proficiency in operating SMT equipment (pick-and-place, reflow oven, solder paste printer).
  • Skilled in hand soldering surface mount components, including fine-pitch and small packages.
  • Ability to read blueprints and interpret assembly drawings and work instructions.
  • Experience with AOI systems and visual inspection techniques.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Familiarity with IPC standards and ESD practices.
  • Basic understanding of electronics and PCB assembly processes.
  • Attention to detail and commitment to quality.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
  • Good communication and documentation skills

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with programming and fine-tuning SMT equipment (Mycronic).
  • Skilled in reworking BGA, QFN, and other SMT packages using hot air or reflow tools.
  • Familiarity with IPC-A-610 standards for electronic assembly inspection.
  • Proficient in using microscopes and precision tools for detailed soldering and inspection.
  • Knowledge of stencil design and solder paste application techniques.
  • Experience with MES or ERP systems for tracking production and quality data.
  • Ability to analyze AOI and X-ray inspection results for defect identification.
  • Understanding thermal profiling and reflow oven optimization.
  • Background in lean manufacturing or Six Sigma methodologies.
  • Ability to train or mentor junior technicians on SMT processes and best practice

Responsibilities

  • Operate and maintain SMT machines.
  • Set up pick-and-place, printer, and reflow equipment.
  • Inspect boards using AOI and visual methods.
  • Troubleshoot equipment and process issues.
  • Do routine maintenance on SMT machines and tools.
  • Familiarize yourself with the tools, instrumentation, and calibration equipment.
  • Communicate with other stations on the assembly line to ensure maximum speed and accuracy.
  • Inform supervisors of any part or equipment defects to ensure prompt response to the problem.
  • Read and follow assembly drawings and instructions.
  • Adjust machine settings for optimal performance.
  • Record production and defect data.
  • Work with engineers to improve processes.
  • Follow ESD, IPC, and safety standards.
