The SMR Supervisor is responsible for ensuring the safe, reliable, and efficient supply of hydrogen and demineralized (Demin) water to the Texas City facility. This includes coordinating the operation of a 175 MMSCFD Steam Methane Reformer (SMR), a 445 GPM Demin system, management of the natural gas supply, and coordination of pipeline hydrogen delivery. The role requires close interaction with the Air Products Customer Service Center to support operational alignment and customer requirements. The Texas City site is a greenfield development supporting what will become the world’s largest single-train ammonia plant, representing a significant expansion of Air Products’ Gulf Coast operations into a new geographic area. The facility includes Air Products’ largest SMR with a capacity of 175 MMSCFD hydrogen production, a 100,000 Nm³/hr Nitrogen Air Separation Unit (ASU), a 3,600 TPD (tons per day) ammonia plant and associated pipelines, 60 MW steam turbine power generation, and extensive utility systems. The facility is connected to the Air Products Gulf Coast Hydrogen Pipeline network and relies on external suppliers for natural gas, water, and power. The ammonia plant is owned by Gulf Coast Ammonia and operates under separate environmental permits, but is operated by Air Products as part of the fully coordinated site. This role works with the SOG Asset Superintendent and leads a team of 8–10 employees. The SMR Supervisor collaborates closely with the Air Products Customer Service Center Manager and Regional Technical Resources teams to ensure the continuous and reliable supply of hydrogen to both the Gulf Coast Ammonia facility and the Air Products pipeline system.
