About The Position

Linxon, a joint venture between AtkinsRéalis and Hitachi Energy, specializes in delivering high-performing EPC solutions for AC substation and electrification projects. We support community growth and industrial development by providing end-to-end engineering, procurement, management, and construction services. This role is for an existing vacancy and is a new position at Linxon. As an SME, Environmental Engineering, you will be responsible for environmental compliance and performance across energy infrastructure projects in Canada. You will guide projects from early planning and permitting through construction and close-out, translating environmental assessments, regulatory requirements, and ISO-aligned standards into practical project controls. You will act as the primary environmental authority for EPC and ECI delivery, integrating environmental requirements into all project decisions, leading permitting and compliance strategies, managing incidents, and serving as the key interface with regulators and clients.

Requirements

  • Strong educational foundation in environmental engineering, environmental science, or a related discipline.
  • Experience in leading environmental management on EPC, utility, or large infrastructure projects.
  • Proven ability to own compliance and environmental outcomes from planning through construction and close-out.
  • Confidence navigating complex regulatory frameworks.
  • Ability to apply ISO 14001-aligned Environmental Management Systems in active project environments.
  • Effective communication skills to build credibility with regulators, clients, contractors, and internal teams.
  • Ability to translate technical requirements into clear, practical execution plans.
  • Comfort working across engineering, procurement, and construction teams to embed environmental requirements into decision-making.
  • Willingness and ability to travel to project sites.
  • Knowledgeable in Ontario Regulation 406/19 and experience managing excess soil planning, approvals, tracking, and reporting.
  • Proficiency with digital environmental management tools such as SoilFLO, ISNetworld, and GIS or geospatial platforms.
  • Use of data to support compliance and transparency.
  • Professionally accountable, bringing—or working toward—a recognized designation such as P.Eng., R.P.Bio., EP®, or an equivalent credential.

Responsibilities

  • Lead environmental planning from project award through close-out by defining permitting strategies, identifying environmental risks early, and ensuring requirements are built into project schedules, designs, and execution plans.
  • Translate Environmental Assessment commitments and regulatory conditions into clear, actionable controls that guide engineering, procurement, construction, and site activities.
  • Develop and operate project-specific Environmental Management Systems that centralize permits, commitments, mitigation measures, monitoring programs, and corrective actions.
  • Coordinate and secure all required environmental permits and approvals by working closely with engineering teams, construction leadership, and external consultants.
  • Embed environmental requirements into day-to-day construction activities by overseeing monitoring programs, inspections, and audits.
  • Serve as the primary environmental interface with regulators, inspectors, customers, and internal stakeholders, providing clear communication and defensible compliance documentation.
  • Lead environmental incident and event management by responding quickly, ensuring accurate reporting, driving root cause analysis, and implementing corrective actions.
  • Own compliance with Ontario Regulation 406/19 by managing excess soil planning, approvals, tracking, and reporting using digital tracking tools such as SoilFLO.
  • Implement and oversee digital and geospatial environmental tools to improve visibility, traceability, and decision-making.
  • Strengthen environmental performance and sustainability outcomes by identifying lessons learned, improving processes, and continuously raising the standard for environmental stewardship.
