SMB Business Development Manager, Payouts — North America

WiseAustin, TX
$100,000 - $133,000Hybrid

About The Position

Wise is seeking an SMB Business Development Manager (BDM) for the Payouts team within Wise Platform in North America. This is a new and growing part of the business, focused on powering cross-border payments for banks, enterprise corporations, and global tech platforms. The Payouts team specifically serves corporate and enterprise customers who need to move their own funds globally at scale. This individual contributor role, based in Austin, TX, will own the SMB demand for Payouts in North America, managing both inbound leads and creating new business opportunities. You will be one of the first three hires on this team, working closely with various departments like Compliance, RevOps, Marketing, and the wider Wise Platform and Wise Business teams. The role involves daily pipeline creation through prospecting, defining effective outreach strategies, and managing the end-to-end sales process for small business logos. Additionally, you will be responsible for qualifying and routing inbound leads, ensuring the rest of the team focuses on the right opportunities. You will also close small, fast-moving deals that fit the ideal customer profile. This role is a significant growth opportunity, with the team expected to expand significantly in the next 18 months, potentially leading to a Mid-Market BDM position.

Requirements

  • 1-3 years in sales development or inside sales.
  • Experience with inbound and outbound prospecting at volume, measured on meeting quality rather than meeting count.
  • Real closing experience: have carried a number and know what it takes to beat it consistently.
  • Comfortable saying no: able to decline inbound queries clearly and without hedging.
  • Strong written communication skills: able to write routing notes, disqualification rationale, and handoffs quickly and clearly.
  • Curiosity about the whole business: desire to understand the entire company to effectively route customers.
  • Strong organizational skills: ability to manage an inbound queue, pipeline, customer meetings, and CRM accuracy simultaneously.
  • Ability to decide what waits and what gets immediate attention.

Nice To Haves

  • Payments experience is a bonus.

Responsibilities

  • Own the inbound queue end to end: qualify, disqualify, or route every Payouts lead in North America quickly and consistently.
  • Own the outbound motion: work a defined list of target SMB accounts daily.
  • Close small deals: manage and win opportunities that are squarely on-ICP but don't warrant a Mid-Market or Enterprise motion, on short cycles.
  • Lead client calls: pitch the value of Wise and represent Wise Platform at industry events.
  • Write clear and concise handoffs for Account Executives (AEs) with clear context and reasoning.
  • Build the rubric: help create documented routing logic, disqualification criteria, and handoff formats.
  • Provide feedback on inbound lead quality to shape investment decisions.
  • Maintain clean CRM data and accurate forecasts to track what's working.
