The TRUMPF Smart Factory in Hoffman Estates, IL, is TRUMPF´s leading technology and demonstration facility. In this innovative, flexible and fully connected factory we use state-of-the-art technologies to make Autonomous Manufacturing a reality. The Operations Engineer is key to the success of the Smart Factory. He/She is responsible for running and setting-up our automated cutting and robotic bending equipment, working closely with technology experts. Order management, programming and optimization of sheet metal workflows is a vital part of this role. Welcome to the Smart Factory!

Requirements

  • Min. 2 years-experience in sheet metal fabrication & machinery, preferably experienced using TRUMPF equipment.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing execution system (MES) and laser/bend programming software is a plus.
  • Detail-oriented and able to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office is required.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills are required, as the role involves regular contact with customers and Sales representatives.
  • Min. 2-year technical school degree or equivalent work experience, with a solid math background.
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Fluency in both written and verbal English required.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs and stand or walk for extended periods in a manufacturing environment.

  • Associate or technical degree in manufacturing preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Use cutting-edge software for programming of automated laser cutting and robotic bending equipment
  • Setup and operate automated state-of-the-art TRUMPF laser and robotic bending equipment
  • Monitor availability, quality and performance while ensuring dimensional accuracy of output parts
  • Estimate, schedule, and monitor production orders while providing feedback on part designs to improve cost and process efficiency throughout the factory
  • Perform feasibility studies using TruTops Boost / CAD and create orders in TRUMPF's MES "Oseon"
  • Consult with customers for clarifications, drawings, and pricing to ensure alignment with production capabilities
  • Support lean manufacturing activities and improve product/information flow by implementing standardized procedures, structures and reports
  • Participate in Smart Factory, Industry 4.0 and AI-driven application studies, seminars and customer events
  • Work closely with other teams to provide best-in-class experiences for all visitors to the TRUMPF Smart Factory
  • Troubleshoot machine errors and work with TRUMPF Service experts to resolve
  • Operate forklifts, AGVs and other tools as needed
  • Follow safety procedures, maintain housekeeping standards, and report hazards to ensure a safe and compliant work environment
