About The Position

DuBois Integrity Academy (DIA) is hiring an Elementary Small Group Self-Contained Special Education Teacher for the 2026-2027 school year. DIA STEM Academy's academic program has two pillars that support substantial improvement in achievement: STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) combined with Blended Learning. We use theme-based interdisciplinary, integrated curricula to facilitate instruction and learning. This position will provide highly structured, individualized instruction to students with moderate-to-severe disabilities. Working within a specialized classroom setting, this position will focus on functional academics, behavior regulation, daily living skills, and adaptive communication to promote independence.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Special Education or a related field.
  • Valid Georgia Professional Standards Commission (GaPSC) Certification in Special Education (Adapted Curriculum or General Curriculum P-12, often preferred with a special focus on Autism or Moderate/Severe disabilities).
  • Criminal background check and fingerprinting.
  • Ability to work on-site, with frequent standing, walking, bending, and stooping.
  • Ability to lift and assist students with physical, cognitive, or developmental disabilities, including toileting and personal care (hygiene, feeding, mobility).
  • Patience & Empathy: Ability to support students with intensive emotional or behavioral needs.
  • Collaboration: Strong interpersonal skills to work with team members and families.
  • Organization: Ability to manage IEP paperwork, reports, and documentation.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and monitor Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), including behavior intervention plans (BIPs).
  • Deliver individualized instruction in academic, social, and daily living skills in a self-contained setting.
  • Adapt general curriculum standards or implement functional curricula using visual supports, assistive technology, and adapted materials.
  • Regularly assess student progress using various tools to track IEP goal mastery and adjust instruction.
  • Provide direct instruction and instructional oversight to paraprofessionals working in the classroom.
  • Work with general education teachers, therapists (OT/PT/Speech), and parents to coordinate support services.
  • Ensure compliance with federal (IDEA) and Georgia state regulations (GaPSC), including maintaining accurate documentation in systems like GO IEP.
  • Implement positive behavioral supports and crisis intervention strategies (e.g., de-escalation).
