About The Position

Under direction of the Supervisor, Grounds Maintenance, maintains and repairs gasoline engines and other parts on power tools and equipment.

Requirements

  • Education less than that required for completion of high school curriculum.
  • Two (2) years experience maintaining and repairing small engines, power tools and equipment.
  • Possession of a valid Class B CDL or ability to obtain one within a designated probationary period.
  • Knowledge of methods for maintenance and repair of small engines, power tools and equipment.
  • Knowledge of hazards and safety precautions for area of assignment.
  • Ability to use hand tools.
  • Ability to read and interpret written instructions and diagrams.
  • Ability to perform physical activities that require frequent kneeling and stooping.
  • Ability to perform manual labor, frequently exerting forces equivalent to lifting up to 25 pounds and occasionally exerting forces equivalent to lifting up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations involving, addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.
  • Ability to maintain routine records of maintenance and repair activities.
  • Ability to pass a medical physical examination.
  • Must have a good private driving record: (a) no more than two (2) convictions of moving violations in the last 36 months and (b) no DWI convictions in the last 60 months.
  • This is a DOT-designated and Airport-designated safety sensitive position as defined in DFW Airport’s Drug and Alcohol Administrative Policy and Procedure. Applicants selected for this position will be required to pass drug and alcohol tests prior to employment and to submit to drug and alcohol screening on a random basis during the length of their employment in the safety sensitive position.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains and repairs two and four-cycle engines up to 12 horsepower; locates causes of trouble, dismantles engines, replaces or repairs parts, and cleans and adjusts machine.
  • Maintains and repairs power tools and equipment and checks and sharpens cutting edges.
  • Makes decisions to repair/replace equipment.
  • Reads and interprets written instructions, diagrams and technical manuals in making repairs and maintaining equipment.
  • Orders parts for repair work as required.
  • Maintains written records of all maintenance; provides input into department's budget based on records.
