About The Position

Generator Supercenter is seeking a Small Engine Mechanic/AC Tech to join their team. This role involves traveling to customer residences in a company-provided vehicle to perform repairs and preventative maintenance on whole-home standby generators. The technician will utilize their mechanical and electrical knowledge to troubleshoot and repair generators, requiring the ability to interpret technical manuals, wiring diagrams, and blueprints. Strong customer service and communication skills are essential for interacting with clients. The position also involves updating an electronic system with service information and adhering to all safety practices, especially when working around electricity. The typical work schedule is Monday-Friday, 8 am-5 pm, but may be adjusted to meet customer needs, particularly during adverse weather conditions. Starting pay will be determined based on the level of electrical and mechanical repair knowledge, generator repair experience, and customer interaction experience.

Requirements

  • Strong customer service and communication skills (verbal and written).
  • Problem-solving, organization, and decision-making skills
  • Ability to work independently demonstrating initiative.
  • Reading and comprehension skills are required to understand technical manuals, electrical wiring diagrams, and blueprints.
  • Ability to drive company vehicles safely to each customer’s residence within and surrounding area.
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Experience with mechanical small engine repair work
  • Experience with electrical wiring.
  • Valid driver's license and satisfactory driving record
  • Be physically able to perform the job duties including bending, stooping, climbing ladders, pulling, grasping, and walking on uneven surfaces
  • The ability to work primarily outdoors in varying weather conditions and temperatures.
  • Proper eyesight/vision to be able to perform mechanical repairs safely.
  • Must be able to interpret technical manuals, blueprints, and schematics.
  • Must be able to drive company vehicles to each job site.

Responsibilities

  • Using company vehicle – travel to customer’s residence
  • Communicate directly with customers regarding arrival, work being performed, issues resolved, etc.
  • Inspect, troubleshoot, repair, and perform maintenance on the customer’s home generator.
  • Follow technical instruction manuals, diagrams, blueprints, and procedures.
  • Test, troubleshoot, and operate automatic transfer switches.
  • Document services are performed using an electronic software system
  • Adhere to all safety practices and requirements.
  • Other duties may be assigned.
