About The Position

Provides advanced veterinary technical skills with respect to the care, management, treatment, and documentation of care provided to animals used in the teaching and research program of the Texas Tech University School of Veterinary Medicine (TTU SVM). This job would involve instruction of veterinary students in clinical and professional skills laboratories involving multiple species including physical examination, surgical, medical, handling, and communication situations. Incumbent must be willing and able to follow-up on all animal health issues on a daily basis. This will at times require weekend and holiday care of sick animals.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
• Five years of experience working with animals in a veterinary hospital.
• Fostering the Core Values of the School of Veterinary Medicine.

Responsibilities

• Provide training, teaching, and assessment support in CPS and elective labs; act as lab lead in the absence of faculty instructors in assigned teaching labs
• Provide medical care in collaboration with DVM faculty for teaching animals (dogs and cats); ensure upkeep of proper medical records; communicate through proper reporting chain
• Support Small Animal Husbandry Caretakers in Raider Animal Care program, enrichment, and behavior assessments
• Support CPS Technicians in set up, ensuring compliant operations, and cleanup of CPS lab areas
• Support CPS Technicians in maintenance and care of models
• Ensure appropriate levels of inventory are available and prepped for CPS and elective labs
• Support Anatomic Pathology Technicians in teaching specimen preparation, delivery, and cleanup
• Collaborate with the Inventory Manager to maintain equipment in assigned areas; upkeep of maintenance logs for assigned equipment
