About The Position

The Slitter/Rewind Operator is responsible for the setup and operation of their designated machine, ensuring accuracy and quality of the product being produced. This role also involves training new employees and adhering to all safety procedures, including the use of PPE, understanding chemical hazards, and ergonomic practices. The operator must read and understand job jackets/orders, establish and follow quality checking procedures, and communicate effectively with supervisors, the oncoming shift, and management. Responsibilities include cleanup, understanding line clearance, and maintaining a clean rewind area. The operator must also be proficient in making computer entries, following the chain of command, and being at their workstation promptly. Compliance with all regulatory, facility food safety, and quality policies and procedures, including product safety (GMPs), is essential.

  • Must be able to manipulate 100 – 300 pounds with the assistance of mechanical devices.
  • Must be able to read a ruler and have other general math skills.
  • Must have directionality to distinguish right and left sides of machinery.
  • Must be agile (bending, stooping, squatting, climbing, etc.).
  • Reflexes must be in excellent condition for quick response time on moving machinery.
  • Must be completely alert at all times.
  • Must have a good sense of smell to distinguish odors from materials and smell smoke.
  • Must have good hearing to follow directions and coordinate procedures with fellow employees and to hear warning signals.
  • Must be able to comprehend and follow detailed instructions without constant supervision.
  • Must be able to communicate operating problems to supervisor.
  • Must have spatial skills.
  • Must have mechanical ability to learn how the machine operates.
  • Must be able to logically deduce (reason) the source of the problem on the slitter/rewinder, propose a solution, and carry out that solution.
  • Must be able to carry out procedures in an initial sequence and repeat that procedure on future orders.
  • Must have eyesight (whether correct or not) which distinguishes hairlines, registration, mounting accuracy and ink lay-down for print suitable quality.
  • Must be able to record information electronically as required by accounting.
  • Must have maturity and disposition to operate safely at all times.
  • Must understand and be able to implement safety emergency procedures.
  • Must have physical strength to stand for lengthy periods of time.
  • Must be able to interact with and follow instructions from quality control or management to maintain specified quality standards.
  • Must be able to do meticulous work under production demand.

Responsibilities
