About The Position

The 2nd Shift Slitter Operator is responsible for operating a power-driven slitter to cut coils into specified strands, ensuring quality and adherence to work orders. This role involves setting up and adjusting tooling, inspecting materials, and maintaining accurate documentation. The operator will also be responsible for minor mechanical repairs, organizing completed products, and maintaining a clean work area. A strong emphasis is placed on safety protocols, continuous improvement, and the ability to cross-train for company needs.

Requirements

  • High School degree or equivalent preferred.
  • Prior experience or training in a related field or manufacturing environment preferred.
  • Must be able to use and understand simple mathematics, including addition, subtraction, fractions, and decimals.
  • Knowledge of the Standard/Imperial measuring system is required.
  • Understanding and use of basic measuring instruments required.
  • Work from written specifications and verbal instructions.
  • Maintains a good attendance record.
  • Ability to work effectively with all other employees.
  • Must have good communication skills.
  • Continuous process improvement will be required.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • A positive attitude.
  • The capacity and desire to learn.
  • The ability to pass both a pre-employment background and drug screening.
  • Experience with mechanical measurement tools.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of the metric system is a plus.
  • Micrometers, digital calipers, tape measure are preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Check work order, select processed material, and verify weight, alloy, size, and quality.
  • Operate power-driven slitter to slit coils into one or more strands.
  • Perform in-process inspections to ensure proper quality is maintained.
  • Set-up and adjust slitter tooling to meet dimensional tolerances.
  • Run material according to work order specifications.
  • Check slit strands to ensure customer quality requirements are met.
  • Properly identify all slit material and complete all documentation.
  • Perform minor mechanical repairs as needed.
  • Group completed product by work order in designated area.
  • Maintain work area in a clean and neat fashion.
  • Follow all safety protocols for the company.
  • Handle tasks and cross-train to help the company meet its goals.
