About The Position

The Slitter/Rewind Operator is responsible for the setup and operation of their designated machine, ensuring the accuracy and quality of the product being produced. This role also involves training new employees and adhering to all safety procedures, including the use of PPE, understanding chemical hazards, and ergonomic practices. The operator must read and understand job jackets/orders, establish and follow quality checking procedures, and communicate effectively with supervisors, oncoming shifts, and management. Responsibilities include cleanup, maintaining a clean rewind area, staying productive even when the rewind machine is down, making proper computer entries, and following the chain of command. Compliance with all regulatory, facility food safety, and quality policies and procedures, including product safety (GMPs), is mandatory.

  • Ability to manipulate 100 – 300 pounds with the assistance of mechanical devices.
  • Ability to read a ruler and have other general math skills.
  • Directionality to distinguish right and left sides of machinery and to follow operating instructions.
  • Agility (bending, stooping, squatting, climbing, etc.).
  • Excellent reflexes for quick response time on moving machinery.
  • Completely alert at all times to operate machinery properly.
  • Good sense of smell to distinguish odors and smell smoke.
  • Good hearing to follow directions and coordinate procedures and hear warning signals.
  • Ability to comprehend and follow detailed instructions without constant supervision.
  • Ability to communicate operating problems to supervisor.
  • Spatial skills to judge dimensions necessary for operation of machinery.
  • Mechanical ability to learn how the machine operates (anilox rollers, cylinders, tension controls, safety mechanisms, etc.).
  • Ability to logically deduce the source of a problem and propose and carry out a solution.
  • Ability to carry out procedures in an initial sequence and repeat or alter them.
  • Eyesight (whether correct or not) which distinguishes hairlines, registration, mounting accuracy and ink lay-down for print suitable quality.
  • Ability to record information electronically.
  • Maturity and disposition to operate safely at all times.
  • Understanding and ability to implement safety emergency procedures.
  • Physical strength to stand for lengthy periods of time.
  • Ability to interact with and follow instructions from quality control or management.
  • Ability to do meticulous work under production demand.

Responsibilities

  • Be at workstation within 3 minutes of reporting time.
  • Comply with all regulatory, facility food safety, and quality policies and procedures, including product safety (GMPs).
