About The Position

The Slitter/Rewind Operator is responsible for the setup and operation of their designated machine, ensuring the accuracy and quality of the product being produced. This role also involves training new employees and adhering to all safety procedures. The operator must read and understand job jackets/orders, establish and follow quality checking procedures, and effectively communicate with supervisors, the oncoming shift, and management. Responsibilities include cleanup, understanding line clearance, keeping the rewind area clean, staying productive when the rewind machine is down, making proper computer entries, and following the chain of command. The operator must be at their workstation within 3 minutes of reporting time and is responsible for compliance with all regulatory, facility food safety, and quality policies and procedures, including product safety (GMPs).

  • Ability to manipulate 100 – 300 pounds with the assistance of mechanical devices.
  • Ability to read a ruler and have other general math skills.
  • Must have directionality to distinguish right and left sides of machinery and to follow operating instructions.
  • Must be agile (bending, stooping, squatting, climbing, etc.).
  • Reflexes must be in excellent condition.
  • Must be able to react to rapidly moving parts.
  • Must be completely alert at all times.

  • Must be able to logically deduce (reason) the source of the problem on the slitter/rewinder, which prevents commercially acceptable printing, propose a solution to that problem and carry out that solution.
  • Must be able to carry out procedures in an initial sequence and repeat that procedure on future orders in a similar manner or with alterations.
  • Must have eyesight whether correct or not, which distinguishes hairlines, registration, mounting accuracy and ink lay-down for print suitable quality.
  • Must be able to record information electronically as required by accounting.
  • Must have maturity and disposition to operate safely at all times.
  • Must understand and be able to implement safety emergency procedures.
  • Must have physical strength to stand for lengthy periods of time.
  • Must be able to interact with and follow instructions from quality control or management to maintain specified quality standards.
  • Must be able to do meticulous work under production demand.

Responsibilities

  • Set up and operate designated machine.

  • Hold themselves and fellow employees accountable to Good Manufacturing Practices, Food Defense, Food Safety, SQF policies and procedures, and maintenance of an excellent food safety culture.
  • Report issues that may lead to food safety related issues.

  • Lift 50 – 75-pound rolls without assistance and manipulate 100 – 300 pounds with mechanical devices.
  • Read a ruler and perform general math skills to measure roll diameters, roll widths, package sizes.
  • Distinguish right and left sides of machinery and follow operating instructions.
  • Be agile (bending, stooping, squatting, climbing) to adjust equipment and avoid dangerous moving machinery.
  • Maintain excellent reflexes for quick response time on moving machinery.
  • React to rapidly moving parts to avoid injury.
  • Be completely alert at all times to operate machinery properly.
  • Distinguish odors from materials and smell smoke.
  • Follow directions and coordinate procedures with fellow employees and hear warning signals.
  • Comprehend and follow detailed instructions without constant supervision.
  • Communicate operating problems to supervisor.
  • Apply spatial skills to judge dimensions for machinery operation.
  • Learn how the machine operates, including anilox rollers, cylinders, tension controls, safety mechanisms.
  • Logically deduce the source of problems on the slitter/rewinder, propose solutions, and carry out those solutions.
