About The Position

The Slitter/Rewind Operator is responsible for the setup and operation of their designated machine, ensuring accuracy and quality of the product being produced. This role also includes training new employees and adhering to all safety procedures.

Previous manufacturing or mechanical experience required.

Must be able to lift 50 – 75-pound rolls without the assistance of any hoist.
Must be able to manipulate 100 – 300 pounds with the assistance of mechanical devices.
Must be able to read a ruler and have other general math skills.
Must have directionality to distinguish right and left sides of machinery and to follow operating instructions.
Must be agile (bending, stooping, squatting, climbing, etc.).
Reflexes must be in excellent condition for quick response time on moving machinery.
Employee must be able to react to rapidly moving parts.
Employee must be completely alert at all times.
Must have a good sense of smell.
Must have good hearing.
Must be able to comprehend and follow detailed instructions without constant supervision.
Must have spatial skills.
Must have mechanical ability to learn how the machine operates.
Must be able to logically deduce (reason) the source of the problem on the slitter/rewinder, which prevents commercially acceptable printing, propose a solution to that problem and carry out that solution.
Must be able to carry out procedures in an initial sequence and repeat that procedure on future orders in a similar manner or with alterations.
Must have eyesight whether correct or not, which distinguishes hairlines, registration, mounting accuracy and ink lay-down for print suitable quality.
Must be able to record information electronically as required by accounting.
Must have maturity and disposition to operate safely at all times.
Must understand and be able to implement safety emergency procedures.
Must have physical strength to stand for lengthy periods of time.
Must be able to interact with and follow instructions from quality control or management to maintain specified quality standards.
Must be able to do meticulous work under production demand.

Responsibilities

Perform set-up and operation of the designated machine.
Ensure accuracy and quality of product being produced.
Train new employees.
Follow all required safety procedures, including PPE, ergonomics, and chemical hazards.
Read and understand job jackets/orders.
Establish and follow quality checking procedures.
Effectively communicate with supervisor, oncoming shift, and management.
Perform cleanup and other procedures related to job completion.
Understand line clearance.
Keep rewind area cleaned.
Clean rewind area at the end of the shift.
Stay busy when rewind is down.
Make proper computer entries.
Follow the chain of command.
Be at workstation within 3 minutes of reporting time.
Comply with all regulatory, facility food safety, and quality policies and procedures, including product safety (GMPs).
Hold themselves and fellow employees accountable to Good Manufacturing Practices, Food Defense, Food Safety, SQF policies and procedures, and maintenance of an excellent food safety culture.
Report issues that may lead to food safety related issues.
Distinguish subtle shades of colors accurately.
Lift 50 – 75-pound rolls without assistance and manipulate 100 – 300 pounds with mechanical devices.
Read a ruler and have general math skills for measurements.
Distinguish right and left sides of machinery and follow instructions.
Be agile (bending, stooping, squatting, climbing) to adjust equipment and avoid dangerous moving machinery.
Maintain excellent reflexes for quick response time on moving machinery.
React to rapidly moving parts to avoid injury.

Apply spatial skills to judge dimensions for machinery operation.
Learn how the machine operates, including anilox rollers, cylinders, tension controls, and safety mechanisms.
Logically deduce the source of problems on the slitter/rewinder and propose/carry out solutions.
Carry out procedures in an initial sequence and repeat or alter them for future orders.
Record information electronically as required.
Operate safely at all times.
