About The Position

As a Slitter Recoiler Operator at Atlas Tube at Zekelman Industries , Birmingham, AL , this role is responsible for supporting the production of slit coils that meet mill specifications. Reporting to the production supervisor and plant manager, this position plays a key role in operating equipment, ensuring product quality, and maintaining safe and efficient production processes. This role is ideal for individuals with mechanical aptitude who thrive in a fast-paced manufacturing environment and prioritize safety and precision.

Requirements

Mechanical experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment, preferred
Basic computer knowledge, including experience with SAP or similar systems
Strong basic math skills
Ability to use handheld measuring equipment such as micrometers and calipers
Overhead crane license, preferred
Hi-lo (forklift) license, preferred
Ability to follow instructions and work effectively in a team environment
Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety
Bend, twist, and reach throughout the shift
Lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
Walk or stand for at least 90% of the shift
Perform work in a manufacturing or industrial environment

Nice To Haves

Mechanical experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment, preferred
Overhead crane license, preferred
Hi-lo (forklift) license, preferred

Responsibilities

Follow workplace safety practices in accordance with company policies and OSHA regulations
Follow verbal and written instructions to support production operations
Perform daily crane and hi-lo inspections and report any deficiencies
Operate overhead cranes and hi-lo equipment as required
Move slit coils to designated staging areas
Operate exit equipment to support production flow
Perform width and gauge checks to ensure material is slit to specifications
Assist with slitter changeovers to support efficient operations
Remove scrap material as required
Complete all required production and operational paperwork
Perform daily preventive maintenance on equipment
Report equipment irregularities or malfunctions to management or maintenance teams
Assist maintenance with equipment repairs as needed
Support other operators during breakdowns, bottlenecks, and scheduled downtime
Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area
Maintain regular, full-time, predictable onsite attendance
