About The Position

This position is responsible for ensuring the Slicer operates efficiently while adhering to all company safety, quality, and productivity standards. The role requires good safety and quality assurance practices, and it is primarily open to current team members at the facility. Team members interested in transferring from other Tyson facilities should contact their local HR Partner. The job involves operating slicer parameters, manual scales, and maintaining the quality of processed meat products through approved adjustments and accurate record-keeping.

Requirements

  • Proficiency in reading and writing.
  • Ability to complete on-the-job paperwork.
  • Ability to communicate effectively across all management levels.
  • Ability to read job ticket / process order; familiar with species changes and specialty products.
  • Ability to read a limited number of two- and three-syllable words and recognize similarities and differences between words and between series of numbers.
  • Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10’s and 100’s.
  • Ability to perform operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.
  • Must be willing and able to walk, push and/or pull and lift up to 61.5 pounds.
  • Must be willing and able to frequently lift and/or move up to 58.5 pounds.
  • Must be willing and able to stand throughout shift with some walking.
  • Must be willing and able to use hands to handle product.
  • Must be willing and able to stand and use both hands to work with equipment and product.
  • Must have specific vision abilities including close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
  • Must not have a written warning or a suspension in the last 1 year.
  • Must be in current role for 6 months (180 days) unless position is a promotion.
  • Must have 4 attendance points or less.
  • Must be willing and able to perform the physical requirements of the job with or without reasonable accommodation.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure the Slicer runs efficiently and meets all company safety, quality, and productivity requirements.
  • Read and understand job tickets/process orders, including species changes and specialty products.
  • Ensure the correct meat type and variety is being processed.
  • Perform setup, clean, and sanitize the Slicer and conveyors as required.
  • Conduct full washdowns using water and sanitizer.
  • Use two people to lift and lower the conveyor belt.
  • Manually load logs into the Slicer.
  • Keep accurate records of Handling Units (HU's) used for each process order.
  • Operate Slicer parameters and manual scale.
  • Maintain the quality of stacks or bunches by making approved adjustments.
  • Set up and tear down the Slicer throughout the shift as required.
  • Weigh at least 4 stacks or bunches per log to ensure weights are within required procedures.
  • Place rework uneven #2 and #3 product in appropriate white tubs.
  • Perform visual checks on the Slicer and conveyors.
  • Report any safety, food safety, or mechanical issues to the line Operator and Supervisor.
  • Immediately notify appropriate personnel of any Safety, Food Safety, or Quality concerns identified.
  • Perform all work duties safely and promote the Tyson safety culture.
  • Receive training as required.
  • Apply common sense understanding to carry out simple one- or two-step instructions.
  • Deal with standardized situations with only occasional or no variables.
  • Perform other duties/positions as required/assigned.
