About The Position

This position involves explaining procedures to patients, collecting necessary paperwork, and monitoring and recording sleep studies. The technician will apply the international 10-20 System of Electrodes, perform polysomnograph set-up, oximeter calibration, and set-up ancillary equipment. Responsibilities also include implementing and monitoring Continuous Positive Airway Pressure or Bi-Level Positive Airway Pressure devices, reviewing polysomnograms, and reviewing clinical competencies for procedures, equipment, and documentation.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Registered by the national board of polysomnography technologist or hold credential of sleep disorder specialist by the national board of respiratory care
  • Basic cardiac life support (BCLS)
  • Continuing education in sleep diagnostic required per state regulations, accrediting organization or as determined by clinical education coordinator
  • Registered polysomnography technologist by the board of polysomnography technologist (RPSGT)

Responsibilities

  • Explain procedures to the patient, collects necessary paper work, monitors and records study

  • Performs Continuous Positive Airway Pressure or Bi-Level Positive Airway Pressure device implementation and titration monitoring
  • Record review of polysomnograms is an integral part of the job
  • Reviews clinical competencies for procedures, equipment and documentation
