About The Position

This role involves performing polysomnographic testing and associated interventions. The position is primarily located in Boise, with potential shifts available in Nampa. The Polysom Tech I performs basic testing under direct supervision, while the Polysom Tech II performs comprehensive testing and analysis under general oversight. The role requires adherence to organizational mission, vision, and values, as well as following procedural protocols for various sleep studies. Responsibilities include revenue management, data acquisition, monitoring signal quality, identifying and reporting abnormalities, documenting observations, implementing interventions, and performing difficult procedures. The role also involves scoring sleep/wake stages and clinical events, and inputting orders and task information into the powerchart system. The position requires age-specific care for neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients.

Requirements

  • Must be enrolled in an Accredited Sleep technologist S .T.A.R program through the AASM , or RRT or RPSGT.
  • Registry in Polysomnography, Respiratory Care or EEG required within 3 years of hire.
  • At hire, Basic Life Support certification from the American Heart Association or American Red Cross is required.
  • A license to practice respiratory care from the Idaho Board of Medicine is required or a permit to perform polysomnography related to respiratory care.
  • Must be enrolled, or have completed, the ASTEP program and register as an RPSGT within 1 year from hire by the Board for Registered Polysomnographic Technologists (BRPT).
  • Required to be certified or registered as a Polysomnographic Technologist (CPSGT or RPSGT) by the Board for Registered Polysomnographic Technologists (BRPT).
  • At hire, Basic Life Support certifications from the American Heart Association or American Red Cross are required.

Nice To Haves

  • Certified or registered as a Polysomnographic Technologist (CPSGT or RPSGT) by the Board of Registered Polysomnographic Technologists (BRPT) preferred.
  • Minimum two years of direct clinical experience preferred.
  • Training in electroneurodiagnostics, pulmonary technology, or respiratory care with emphasis on cardiorespiratory, neurological and sleep/wake physiology preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Perform the basics of polysomnographic testing and associated interventions under the direct supervision of a Registered Polysomnographic Technologist.
  • Perform comprehensive polysomnographic testing and analysis, and associated interventions under the general oversight of a Registered Polysomnographic Technologist and/or the Medical Director or designee.
  • Know, understand, incorporate, and demonstrate the Organization's Mission, Vision, and Values in behaviors, practices, and decisions.
  • Follow procedural protocols (e.g., Multiple Sleep Latency Test (MSLT), Maintenance of Wakefulness Test (MWT), parasomnia studies, PAP and oxygen titration) to ensure collection of appropriate data.
  • Ensure the accuracy of documenting services and supplies provided to the patients.
  • Follow “lights out” procedures to establish and document baseline value (e.g., body position, oxyhemoglobin saturation, respiratory and heart rates).
  • Perform polysomnographic data acquisition while monitoring study-tracing quality to ensure signals are artifact-free.
  • Identify and report signal abnormalities and make adjustments, if necessary.
  • Document routine observations, including sleep stages and clinical events, changes in procedure, and other significant events in order to facilitate scoring and interpretation of polysomnographic results.
  • Implement appropriate interventions (including actions necessary for patient safety and therapeutic intervention such as continuous and bi-level positive airway pressure, oxygen administration, etc.).
  • Follow “lights on” procedures to verify integrity of collected data and complete the data collection process (e.g., repeats the physiological and instrument calibrations and instruct the patient on completing questionnaires).
  • Demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to recognize and provide age specific care in the treatment, assessment, and education of neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients.
  • Perform difficult and unusual procedures and therapeutic interventions.
  • Score sleep/wake stages by applying professionally accepted guidelines.
  • Score clinical events (e.g., respiratory events, cardiac events, limb movements, arousals) according to center specific protocols.
  • Input orders and task information such as account activation, notify and task completion in the powerchart system.
