About The Position

This role involves performing polysomnographic testing and associated interventions. There are two levels, Polysom Tech I and Polysom Tech II, with varying levels of supervision and experience requirements. The position is primarily located in Boise, with potential shifts in Nampa. Employees enjoy four days off a week, with potential shift schedules including Sunday-Tuesday or Wednesday-Friday.

Requirements

  • For Polysom Tech I: Must be enrolled in an Accredited Sleep technologist S.T.A.R program through the AASM, or RRT or RPSGT.
  • For Polysom Tech I: Registry in Polysomnography, Respiratory Care or EEG required within 3 years of hire.
  • At hire, Basic Life Support certification from the American Heart Association or American Red Cross is required.
  • For Polysom Tech II: A license to practice respiratory care from the Idaho Board of Medicine is required or a permit to perform polysomnography related to respiratory care.
  • For Polysom Tech II: Must be enrolled, or have completed, the ASTEP program and register as an RPSGT within 1 year from hire by the Board for Registered Polysomnographic Technologists (BRPT).
  • For Polysom Tech II: Required to be certified or registered as a Polysomnographic Technologist (CPSGT or RPSGT) by the Board for Registered Polysomnographic Technologists (BRPT).

Nice To Haves

  • Certified or registered as a Polysomnographic Technologist (CPSGT or RPSGT) by the Board of Registered Polysomnographic Technologists (BRPT) preferred (for Polysom Tech I).
  • Minimum two years of direct clinical experience preferred (for Polysom Tech II).
  • Training in electroneurodiagnostics, pulmonary technology, or respiratory care with emphasis on cardiorespiratory, neurological and sleep/wake physiology preferred (for Polysom Tech II).

Responsibilities

  • Performs the basics of polysomnographic testing and associated interventions under the direct supervision of a Registered Polysomnographic Technologist (for Polysom Tech I).
  • Performs comprehensive polysomnographic testing and analysis, and associated interventions under the general oversight of a Registered Polysomnographic Technologist and/or the Medical Director or designee (for Polysom Tech II).
  • Knows, understands, incorporates, and demonstrates the Organization's Mission, Vision, and Values in behaviors, practices, and decisions.
  • Follows procedural protocols (e.g., Multiple Sleep Latency Test (MSLT), Maintenance of Wakefulness Test (MWT), parasomnia studies, PAP and oxygen titration) to ensure collection of appropriate data.
  • Ensures the accuracy of documenting services and supplies provided to the patients.
  • Follows “lights out” procedures to establish and document baseline value (e.g., body position, oxyhemoglobin saturation, respiratory and heart rates).
  • Performs polysomnographic data acquisition while monitoring study-tracing quality to ensure signals are artifact-free. Identifies and reports signal abnormalities and make adjustments, if necessary.
  • Documents routine observations, including sleep stages and clinical events, changes in procedure, and other significant events in order to facilitate scoring and interpretation of polysomnographic results.
  • Implements appropriate interventions (including actions necessary for patient safety and therapeutic intervention such as continuous and bi-level positive airway pressure, oxygen administration, etc.).
  • Follows “lights on” procedures to verify integrity of collected data and complete the data collection process (e.g., repeats the physiological and instrument calibrations and instruct the patient on completing questionnaires).
  • Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to recognize and provide age specific care in the treatment, assessment, and education of neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients.
  • Performs difficult and unusual procedures and therapeutic interventions.
  • Scores sleep/wake stages by applying professionally accepted guidelines.
  • Scores clinical events (e.g., respiratory events, cardiac events, limb movements, arousals) according to center specific protocols.
  • Input orders and task information such as account activation, notify and task completion in the powerchart system.
